For LBs... is Stack The Box how close together the LBs are and Coverage Distance how far away from the LOS they start out?

Does Run/Pass/Balanced focus affect their positioning? If so, how?

Thanks!

test them all out and learn. that's half the fun.

I wouldn't want to deprive you of all the fun from figuring stuff out.

That's fine, but I think the fun is seeing what the results are in Stacking the Box against a given play... not finding out what the heck Stacking the Box even means.

I think the run stack brings them closer to the line of scrimage. then you can shift them to the strong, weak or center. The strong side is usually determined by the side with a TE.

I just asked some similar types of questions yesterday. Maybe the link below will be helpful to you. I know it was very helpful to me.

Stack the box more/less etc. means how close to the line of scrimmage. Coverage distance refers to when they are in pass coverage.

AngryDragon: Thanks, I had read that thread and it had tons of great info.

AngryDragon & Dinein, thanks for the input.

SteelersInsider: I'll run a lot of experiments against the next gutted team I face, but tomorrow's game is gonna be a tough one.

Stack = LBs closer to LOS and SS moved up (depending on the shell).

Coverage distance = how much cushion they give in man to man coverage.

Awesome, that completely explains my frustration with my corners! Individually they're set to Close Coverage, and I've been thinking they just suck cuz they keep leaving cushion. Now I know it's just the coaching that sucks! Excellent info, thanks! I'd thought coverage distance was the initial cushion of the safeties.

question, the "coverage distance" setting, will it over-ride the individual tactics of how close to cover a man, or is it meaning how deep you cover a man or something?

It's how deep the safeties are playing, mostly (or CB's in zone). Really only affects players who are playing zone; not man.

Hmm, I'll have to test that in some friendlies. I had always understood it to be a way to override the individual man coverage distances. Good to know

It does not. Satchmo also came to this conclusion afaik.
