The Middle East is a pretty poor example of religion causing violence IMO. The problems there are caused by a combination of post-WWI Western policies, oppressive/regressive authoritarian governments, and poverty (among many others). Religion is just the "icing on the cake" used to convince people that their actions are justified. If they were all atheists, they'd just find a different reason to be violent.

Maybe some one should create a private forum that is for respectful religious debate. I would enjoy this. Who ever the owner is would have to make sure the respectful aspect was there.
