1) Fremont Warriors (last week #1)
The Fremont Warriors remain in the midst of their congratulatory stretch. They just pounded the hapless Smash Mouth Silverbacks, in a game where even the scoreboard couldn't keep up with Fremont's prolific scoring attack. Next they face the less hapless but still overmatched Rhode Island Revolutionaries. Expect another big score on the scoreboard.
2) Tulsa Teamsters (last week #2)
Tulsa has consistently put impressive scores on the scoreboard. For example, last week, Tulsa took care of a solid South Georgia team, 69-7. Tulsa plays Island Shaka Brah's in the **Game of the Week** This is the signature win Tulsa needs to contend for the #1 spot. Can they get it?
3) Island Shaka Brah's (last week #3)
Island Shaka Brah's are coming off a big win over French Lick, and get a chance for another one in the **Game of the Week** A win over Tulsa here would move them one spot closer to reclaiming the throne they held in the first few weeks.
4) Walla Walla Wackers (last week #4)
Walla Walla has only played one of the top 3 teams, falling to Tulsa 42-3 in Week 3. Still, they've won all the games they're supposed to win, including a week 4 victory over LaCrosse. They get the Starkville Cows this week, and if they're smart, they'll be resting their starters. The next two weeks bring Fremont and French Lick.
5) LaCrosse River Rats (last week #5)
LaCrosse rebounded from their extremely disappointing performance against the Hobbs Gerbil Wranglers (Did their coach injure his leg a la Joe Pa or Charlie Weis, and have to leave the game?) with a solid win over the Lone Star Leopards. Plenty of challenges ahead: South Georgia today, followed by Tulsa, ISB, and a surprising Las Vegas team. Let's hope their coach sticks around for these barnburners.
6) French Lick Liquors (last week #6)
French Lick is another one of those hard to gauge teams at this point in the season. Even I don't know where we stand. We've had 3 losses...to teams ranked 1 3 and 5. The next two weeks won't help us figure anything out either: blowout wins over Smash Mouth and Rhode Island loom ahead.
7) South Georgia Growl(last week #7)
South Georgia's predicament is similar to French Lick's. They've lost 3 games to elite teams, and beaten the rest. The Liquors get the nod only because they're winning the "should win" games in more impressive fashion so far. They face the LaCrosse RiverRats in a nationally televised game - check your local listings.
8) Las Vegas Villians (last week #10)
The Villians pulled the upset of the week, thrashing a Hobbs Gerbil Wranglers team which was itself coming off an impressive win over LaCrosse. If the transitive property could be applied to GLB, the Villians would be ranked above #5. Unfortunately, their crushing loss to French Lick in week 2 makes that difficult to swallow. Still, they're on the move up, and have another winnable game today versus the Lone Star Leopards.
9) Washington Blitz (last week #9)
The Blitz faced a really frontloaded schedule, and have already lost to ISB, Fremont, French Lick, and Walla Walla. They are probably a playoff team, and have 3 winnable games coming up. Today: a near must-win versus the Chicago Shockers.
10) Hobbs Gerbil Wranglers (last week #8)
If you're a fan of the Gerbil Wranglers, I hope you've got a strong stomach, because their season has been an emotional rollercoaster so far! Over the last two weeks, they pulled a last-second upset over #5 LaCrosse, and followed it up with a crushing loss against a Las Vegas team that was ranked 2 below them at the time. They will need to be more consistent to put together a playoff bid, and their next two games against the Doom and the Blitz could determine their playoff fate.
11) Tulsa Doom (last week #11)
Tulsa pulled out a close victory over a winless team to keep up their improbable playoff bid. Their next game is against the Hobbs Gerbil Wranglers, who are better but have shown themselves to be wildly inconsistent. If Tulsa can get a break here, their playoff bid might not be nearly as improbable.
12) Lone Star Leopards (last week #12)
The Lone Star Leopards may only have 1 win, but each of their losses has been fairly respectable. They scored 38 on Walla Walla and 23 on LaCrosse. It will not be long before they notch win #2: I suspect in one of the next two weeks, versus Las Vegas and Tulsa.
13) Chicago Shockers (last week #14)
Despite having zero wins, Chicago is significantly higher leveled than either Rhode Island or Starkville. One has to suspect they'll get their first win in two weeks, when they travel to Starkville to take on the Cows.
14) Rhode Island Revolutionaries (last week #15)
Rhode Island was victorious in last week's Extreme Pillowfight, bumping them above Starkville. They have a very difficult schedule over the next few weeks, facing Fremont followed by French Lick.
15) Starkville Cows(last week #13)
Starkville was inches away from turning their first win into a two-game winning streak, falling to the Revolutionaries 15-13. Still, they've got momentum and their owner is actively making this team better. If they improve enough, they might have a chance against the Shockers in 2 weeks.
16) Smash Mouth Silverbacks (last week #16)
