My QB has his dump pass setting to sometimes, though I find that he is often a little itchy to just get the ball to the backs rather than working through his reads or trying a little harder to pass to a WR.

Has anyone had success with setting dump pass to never? I worry that this will jack up his INTs, but am curious if anyone has tried it and had it work well.

I'm curious to your thinking/strategy. Why do you think that changing his dump pass setting to Never will create more INT's?

Probably thinks that instead of dumping it off, he'll force throws that are well covered, thus increasing the possibility of an int?

The only reason "never" exists as an option is Bort had people complain that they never wanted to throw to their HBs no matter what. Personally I don't see the logic in ignoring an open man, especially since QBs can't throw the ball away if the others are all covered. I'll take a catch for no gain or a drop by a HB over an INT on a forced throw any day.

I agree to a point, but I found that the QB dumped off too soon and too often. I've had it turned off since game two of last season and have seen a huge increase in production with no increase in INT ratio. Check my stats from last season.

OK, I have used Never - didn't like it, no real increase indeep passes - seemed to want to orce the balls.
However, my HB's & FB CAN catch balls!
So, non-issue.

But if like many builds out there your HB cas a 10-12 in catching then I would shut it off. I would rather set an higher short passes % than have dropped balls!!!

Cause when it's 3rd and 3 and yu throw to a HB and he drops it - Punt!
No second chances, end of story - I hope they don't score on us, etc.

I push catching for anyone that will get a ball thrown at them!
Someone will get open! But, if they drop it???

My concern about switching to Never is exactly as Buster Hymen suggested, a fear that the QB will end up forcing the ball into coverage (or taking too many sacks). The reason I was interested in this, is exactly as tciss said, which is that our QB seems to dump too quickly.

The problem with a dump pass is partially the drops (our backs have decent catching/vision/jumping, but not catching at a WR or TE level), but also the tackles for loss that come from a dump pass behind the line of scrimmage. It seems that on the dump pass, more than on the short pass to the HB, it takes too long for the backs to catch the ball and get up to speed.

Anyway, I appreciate the various responses.

You use 'never' against shitty teams so you don't always dump it off.

At least my QB always checked it down too fast in this situation.

i have had it off in past games due to the HB not being able to catch, but i never felt that my QB forced passes. I will get 1 INT but nothing to make me never want to change the tactic. it depends on the teams u face, thats why its a tactic.

I've had it set to Never all season because I found my guy doing quick dump offs far too often and our offense would stall.

book some scrimmages and try the different settings. if the wr are going to be covered well, there are times where the dump is pretty much the only option. the last two games my qb faced two top pass d's in the conferance and threw 5 ints. his only ones of the season.

in the replays i saw where if the dump option was on could have gotten some yards. instead of deflections.

I use to have it set to never but when you face teams that seem to have the magical DEs or teams that heavy blitz being able to pass to your HBs comes in handy
