Oh, and I got banned by McBriar for posting in that thread that it shouldn't be in the WL forum.

that was awesome - also gave dpride his sig for a while - may still have it

So many people in this thread telling people that they need to remember 9/11, didn't learn anything from it.

It made the world a shittier place and people have been treating each other in a shittier manner ever since. Playing World Police made more martyrs, so that shitty people could turn normal people on both sides of the war into slaughtered lambs.

The real story from 9/11 that mattered was how people came together to deal with the disaster, the ones who took in orphans and survivors and who helped clear the rubble. There was a fear that everyone felt who lived in a city with a potential target, and there was the comfort that people brought to each other in the days after the attacks. At the time, we didn't consider it an attack on "America" it was an attack on Western ideals. People were scared that if they could do that to the two biggest commerce and military targets in the United States, it could happen anywhere and to anyone.

But instead of coming together, it became a political wedge, used to drive through horrible policies, not just in the US. It became an excuse to go to war... to devestate another country the way we all felt devestated at the time. The response was that we had to be shitty to the people who were being shitty to us. And also Iraq, because fuck Iraq, right?

It was the emotional wedge that split not just the Democrats and the Republicans, but whole nations of people. It went from being the event that brought people together to the event that drove people apart. People forgot about the good that came from it and concentrated on the negative emotions and all the shit that the propoganda machines pumped out.

Don't tell me to remember what happened when you've forgotten what it meant.

Shut up.

People are saying to remember the event, not the political fallout of it.

Like anyone is going to forget the event.

Some idiot:
"I'm going to New York, I'm really hoping to see the World Trade Center? Oh right, I forgot, they aren't there. I guess I'll just go to London and hope to catch a glimpse of Lady Di. Wait, she's what?"

If you don't remind people about the context, the meaning, then what the fuck is the point of telling people to remember the biggest media covered event in our lifetime?

"Lest We Forget" isn't a motto to remind people that The Great War happened, it is to remind people that it cannot be allowed to happen again. It honours the dead by keeping their sacrifice in context.

Or maybe I'm wrong and there is an epidemic of people who are forgetting that the two towers of the World Trade Center were knocked down and that a plane was also crashed into the Pentagon. If that is the case, then you are right. The context doesn't matter, people just need to be reminded that that shit happened.

You think Pearl Harbor was any different in that regard? Both mobilized the entire nation and convinced them to support a war.

What the fuck are you rambling on about?

There are those that simply wish to honor the memory of the dead.

Actually I want people to remember the why, because I don't want my kids going through what I had to. Nobody remembers that hate caused the event, they only remember it happened. If people would remember the cause this country would be less screwed up than it is now. Do you think historians will just give this 1 paragraph? This will be something discussed for days, weeks, even whole semesters. But right now nobody is listening to the why.

Your country butt-fucked your citizens in front of the entire world. They then proceeded to take away your "freedom".

The rest of the world doesn't feel sorry for you. You made the world a more dangerous place.

Elect some better leaders and not some illiterate Texas redneck intent on killing 100,000 people just because a man walked on a mosaic of his daddy's face.

People should wipe their ass with your flag because it only represents tyranny and totalitarianism.

The sooner your politicians finish destroying your country the better off the rest of the world will be.

Go fuck yourselves arrogant war mongers.
