Depends a LOT on traffic. One big road in and out means a simple fender-bender on a bridge can add an hour to that easily. On our last trip down there my wife, son and I all ended up in an impromptu bridge-party that way. Everyone just stopped their engines, got out of their cars, and started mingling. It was right around sunset too, and the weather was gorgeous, so it's definitely the most fun I've ever had in a traffic jam.

Also, you can drive from Fort Lauderdale to Key West in 3.5 hours... but why would you want to? There is a metric fuck-ton of stuff to see and do in the Keys all along that drive. If you drive it in 3.5 hours, you are missing the entire damn point of that drive.

Daytona to Key West, Ft Lauderdale is about half way. Plus all the ridiculous low speed limits out to Key West. Isn't Key West about 7 hours? I don't remember exactly.

From Daytona to Key West would be about 7 hours, yeah.

What they were talking about before was Fort Lauderdale to Key West, which is indeed about 3.5 hours.

Those times are accounting for the speed limits, by the way, so that's not really a factor.

However, there's no way to account for accidents, and because of the unique nature of the roads in the Keys (only one big road in and out), a big accident in the wrong place can slow you down big-time. And as I mentioned before, if you're rushing that drive, you're missing out on so damn much to do anyway.

If you can't find a way to have fun in Key West, I really don't know what to think of you.

North Carolina is pretty awesome actually, at least the eastern and western ends of it anyway. Mid-state's kinda boring I guess, but the mountains are incredible, and the Outer Banks are an enjoyable drive.

Takes forever to get there and for what? No beaches, shitty bars with a bunch of old people, and a bunch of tourist crap. The only cool thing about Key West was Hemingway's place.

South Carolina is the absolute worst to drive through.

Just flat pseudo farmland for hours upon hours

Through Georgia?

It's even worse. Georgia has like literally zero redeeming factors.

There is always air travel. lol

I mostly fly to wherever I'm going because it is usually a long trip and vacation time is sparse. Drove last time I went back home to NC/SC (yes both, born in one, school the other and then moved back to my birth state) and it's a good way to eat a day and a half total for just travel. I drive for a living, that just isn't cool.
