Alright, we got to the bottom of it. It was no biggie. No hacking or scripts, just an admin testing the forum edit options on one of their private forums. They had no idea this would be the outcome. To be honest, none of us thought it was possible. No harm, no foul.

The good news is I know how to make some more forum entertainment in the future!

Thanks for the info. Did everyone on the site get temporarily invited and the same people are always on the forums or was it a select-invite?

It was the entire site.

The best GLB forum freak out moment, by far, was Tier's "CHECK THIS OUT" thread(s) in FFA.

For those who don't remember or were not around:

This thread titled "CHECK THIS OUT" contained an innocent enough looking link, when you clicked on the link, it created a new thread titled "CHECK THIS OUT" by the person who clicked on it. So on and so forth. As soon as it was posted, FFA exploded.

Keep in mind, this happened when FFA was at it's peak. The moderators had to suspended so many users just to prevent them from clicking the link. Bort had to actually close FFA to give us time to clean up the mess. I believe the threads took up 8 or more pages.

This was the only time in GLB history were we had to shut down an actual section of the public forums to prevent a problem from spreading.

EDIT: If any of the old FFA vets have a screenshot of this event, I would love a copy.

When was that?? That's absolutely genius

IMO the best forum freakout was early in FFA's heyday when we broke the record for most posts with the This or That thread, which was locked and deleted by a currently former mod, which spawned multiple whodunnit threads and an epic overreaction by multiple people, myself included.

lol Yes, I do remember that and I think I actually had to "investigate" whodunnit but back then we didn't keep track of deletions. Not sure if anyone ever fessed up to it.

Haha was that the reason that deletions started getting tracked? And technically no one did but there were 2 people who received near all the blame
