This thread was in jest? Oh, I thought it was serious.

Seriously, come off it. You are the same person that used to flame people, edit your post, and then report the other guy to the mods.

I love all of your pretending, like what TaySC says. You know the rules, don't break them. Don't risk getting banned by mods/admins. I have used the report button, but only because I felt like it was against the rules.
Please quit trolling. Seriously.

TBH I think this thread needs to be locked soon.

Dunno, I'm sure quite a lot of people are turned off by the mind-numbing banality of "us guys", whoever they are.

I think it's funny that folks get banned in the first place. I mean really, folks who consider themselves adults should have enough common sense to know what type of postings are going to bring down the ban hammer.

I think it's funny that you have issues with reading comprehension:

Improper Application - I just came off of a ban for b7 (General trolling of a single user), which hasn't existed in the forum rules for quite some time now, as b7 refers to sexual harassment. Apparently many other users have suffered the same fate, so if the people who run this game can't even be bothered to update the ban system to eliminate offenses that no longer exist, then why are we being banned at all? Meanwhile there have been many occasions of people being banned for things that aren't listed anywhere in the rules at all (discussing forum bans, posting ASCII, quoting yourself (supposedly considered spam), making a thread with just a smiley in the opening post (supposedly considered a blank post even though the rules make it clear that a post with a smiley is not blank), pointing out that someone cheated, etc). In many cases moderators have even admitted that they don't know what is and what isn't in the rules because none of them were ever trained on what the rules entail or how they should be enforced.

I find it also ironic that the folks in this thread that are complaining the most/loudest about the way the forums are moderated, are folks who have been banned; multiple times in most cases.

Uhm ... that's the opposite of ironic. It makes perfect sense that those most frequently subject to moderation would be most sensitive to its flaws. Someone who has never been banned complaining about moderation would be ironic.

I disagree with that. In fact I'd make an argument that behavior that would get one banned is actually bad for the game/site. Personal attacks, posting of inappropriate graphics, vulgarities, etc are certainly not what keeps people playing this game.

CPL begs to differ.

I mean, it's like saying that the American Anthropological Association is the only worthwhile source for anthropological research or something. Any rational person would know that there are likely many more sources that are worthwhile.

A New Mod's two cents worth:

I've been on both sides of the issue. As the newest mod I'm slowly trying to work my way into the system without stepping on any user's/mod's toes.

I have had my share of discussions with many of you as a user and am very conscious of that fact now when looking at a particular situation.

I think we can all agree that the major infractions are being enforced correctly. In no particular order, punishment for multi's, racism, porn, threats, rape and so forth are meted out expeditiously and in a fair manner.

If someone uses profanity in a public thread I'll try to edit the profanity out and send a polite reminder to the individual about the forum rule. Because GLB is an open website with no age requirement we must always work under the assumption that users of all ages can be online at anytime.

Personal Attacks are a real gray area. What is considered a personal attack to one individual, may not be to another. The sensitivity of the user is the key, and someone with a dissenting view does not qualify as a personal attack.

Always remember FFA is clearly labeled and much more open to adult conversation. I know the quality of posts that sometimes end up in there cover many ends of the spectrum, but if you feel the need to "let the badger out" you might consider heading over to the forum that was created for that purpose rather than using the main forums in an inappropriate manner.

From what I can gather in my limited time on the mod side is that each situation is different, and other than the major infractions, needs to be looked at with a subjective eye.

Fortunately, a permanent ban is above my pay grade. If there is a particular issue that you need addressed feel free to pm me and I'll research it for you.

I was just politely trying to avoid the derailing of an important thread. The offer still stands. My inbox is always open.
