Ok, I'm all over it. The spreads will be out soon. But what would be cool is if we was to start out with so many Units each. You can bet on a single game for even money, a 3 pick set(Trifecta)for 5-1 odds, or a 4 pick set for 10-1 Odds.
Let me know what you guys think? If we did that we would probably each start with like 500 Units, that way each guy would have enough to payoff when it's his turn to be the Bookie. We could have limits on the amount that you can bet each week.
I do like your idea. However, it changes strategy some that you can see everyone elses picks. If it was anonymous, it might work. For next season, I'll work on a webpage that can handle that. It's too soon to do it for this season. Throw out all the suggestions, and next season we can do that.
Actually, the best idea I've thought of is to make it a futures market. Anyone can set a price on any game they want, and if someone wants to match it, then a deal is done. Everyone starts with some amount of money (say $500). You can offer various lines. Say I offer Minnesota -5 for $100 next week. Anyone can take Lauderdale +5 for up to $100. You could also make an offer for Minnesota -4 if you thought you still had an edge. Make sense?
I am going to start working on this soon if there is interest. That way, no one has to be the bookie, and tons of people can participate.
Starting with 500 units vs. 0 units isn't much different since we can go negative, except there is a hard betting limit in that.
I do like the idea of a parlays. The fair odds are 3-1 for 2 games, 7-1 for 3 games, and 15-1 on 4 games. Since its pretty tricky to be the bookmaker, we might want to lower the odds some, make it pay 2-1 for 2 games, 6-1 for 3 games, and 10-1 for 4 games. Let's just make the oddsmaker set whatever odds he wants to for the parlays!
Good luck this week!
