While a lot of Amish value cleanliness, most of the Ohio Amish are dirty inbreds.
We bought some lumber from them once. The "leader" wasn't there at the time, so we had to wait like an hour or two...in the meantime we got to see and "meet" the clan. One of them didn't have functioning ankles, his feet just flew everywhere as he walked round. Another giant of a man just sat in back for the whole two hours and never spoke a word...just various grunts to the limp legged one...and the limp legged one responding with his own grunts.
They were also making syrup in this giant thing like 10 feet from where we were standing. The limp legged one kept sticking his uncleaned, uncovered hands into the syrup then walking up to us with his hand out going "Taste, taste!"
I live up North towards Cleveland and the ones up are all mostly hard drinkers and fighters. They can hold there own with the best and anyplace that works, makes or uses wood they are like German cockroaches and are infected all through it.Funny thing is the way you are describing the ones you met remind me of a local junkyard with people running it,they are very creepy .

It would have been scary if they appeared to have any physical ability at all.
Now that I am thinking about it we have some real nutty ones up here cutting beards off other Amish for not following some rules or code. The one guy that gave the Ok to do it worked in the same place with my brother and from what he has told me the guy really sounds nuts.We know this one guy that grows some really HUGE deer that he sells to Hunting farms in Texas lol.

Lolno... Steve. I've no idea if they use his real name or not, but my assumption is that he's a pompous prick enough to put his name out there. Or, in other words, a pretty fantastic lawyer lol! I've not seen the show.
His name is on damn near every bar matchbook in the county. And, sorry to disappoint, but it is most definitely all scripted. The Amish don't allow themselves to be photographed, much less filmed.
