You have to give money to make money. Its an easy concept. The game will die and they will not make a penny off the rest of its life span. Or they can bring in new life by adding a free player creating new activity. Yes you get people who get another free guy and never pay a cent. So what?! It costs them nothing to give a free player anyways, they loose no money. Their will be those who pay for a team to field the dots, people who pay for CEQ. People who pay to build an extra Dot or two to get the team to 55 players. Heck lowering the costs of flex would probably make them a ton of money. I know if flex wasn't so expensive to make a player in this game I'd buy a ton of it to field my own team. But instead they make almost nothing off me cuz I only pay for the custom equipment. When your product stops selling you give out samples and lower price. And the end result is they make a Profit! Correct me if Im wrong but that's what any good business wants right? GLB is to preoccupied with GLB2 though to worry about also getting profits from classic. They leaving money on the table here if you ask me. I just don't understand your business logic bhall.

bringing in more users is what is necessary. Adding another free player does not accomplish that goal.

Its like a restaurant giving a buy one get one but only advertising it to its regular customers. If no new customers come into the restaurant they just end up giving away half of the meals for free.

thats the problem with american businesses. once you are a customer, the business tends to forget about you and wonder why you went elsewhere. i used to go to this hot dog stand for lunch at least twice a week. over time, friends started coming with me, and the business was smart enough to realize that I was bring in new customers, so I was constantly getting free food, especially after I started bringing some of my pretty female co-workrs, because that place was 100% male customers before that. i was loyal to that place right up until they sold out to starbucks. money is money whether it be from the person who is coming for the 1st time, or the person who comes all the time.

It really is because you can't retain the people you have with the game staying the same forever. People get bored. Free players doesn't keep people around paying money.

that is really a separate argument. I dont disagree with what you are saying, and there should be something in place, like a tiered reward/point system or something to motivate people to spend money.

But that doesnt address how we add more users. If i had to pick one or the other (get new users or reward current user base) I would choose get new users as that should increase the enjoyment for the current user base as well.

but which is more likely at this point, keeping the current people happy, or bringing in new people? trying to find more big spenders seems like a fruitless endeavor. trying to get current customers to spend a little more seems far more sustainable.

In truth, "both" is the answer. They've got to reconnect with the current customer base--that's not as hard as it sounds since there's still really no suitable alternative for those of us who like playing online football. Spend a tiny bit of time giving us some nickels and dimes worth of attention. Then spend a little more time spending nickels and dimes worth of attention on attracting new clients. And CEASE all talk of shutting down either GLB or GLB2--no brick and mortar business would even tolerate such discussions while the doors were still open and I can't imagine for a moment why GLB allows its staff to even make offhanded comments in that regard. Part of stopping the bleeding is sending the right signals to the customer base--continual hints and assertions that we'll HAVE to transition to GLB2 do nobody any favors whatsoever--they just sap the confidence of those that pay for this game.

I dunno I have never gotten the hint from any of the admins here that this game is shutting down. (Sure there have been offhanded comments about why the user base is down these days but not shutting it down) It is just a long running myth from the users.

thats true. no reason to be an either/or. there should be no talk of glb shutting down. its like when circuit city was rumored to be in trouble and everyone stopped shopping there, and the rumor of closing became a self fulfilling prophecy. last season, i think there were 3 startups amongst my friends, and this year, only 1 attempted a startup and i havent checked to see how they were doing getting people to sign onboard.

I would say neither. This game has maxed out its potential in their eyes and that's why GLB2 was created. If they wanted to do anything else to this game they would have by now. I don't pay attention to glb2 so Im not sure whats improved relative to glb1. You would think they would do whatever it takes to make both games truly successful , but I believe the evidence indicates they think this version was inferior (at least to what was probably the original concept) and thus have given up on it.

yea, i think it strayed to the point that bort lost interest in it. i made a player in glb2 but never went back. if he had kept dots or helmets, i would have tried, but those replays are horrible, and if you cant watch the players, there's no sense in making them.

in many ways I wish he had just forced everyone to switch over....not make such extreme changes visually but implement the rebuilding process, new attributes etc. perhaps give a replay option for classic version or the new one.....I really dont understand why you would want to pit one game vs the other especially when you are dividing the user base over it...

totally agree with this it will be interesting to see if either version survives.

GLB could do a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for advertising. They could give flex and merch as incentives to donors. The flex would help stimulate activity from the current user base and the advertising would help grow the community.
