I disagree with that. In fact I'd make an argument that behavior that would get one banned is actually bad for the game/site. Personal attacks, posting of inappropriate graphics, vulgarities, etc are certainly not what keeps people playing this game.

Problem with that is almost every one of my bans were for things that had nothing to do with anything you listed.

I know people that fly below the radar by just flaming the hell out of people in league forums because they know the people they are messing with won't hit the report button. I'm sure you've been banned for etc. before I didn't try and list all behaviors that could get a person banned. But my point remains.

Don't get banned. How to avoid this? Mature adult behavior. Treat folks with respect, like how you'd like to be treated.

How is that not super easy to do?

I was a model citizen in these forums for the first year or so I was at this site. After being flamed and trolled repeatedly I finally grew fed up and started fighting fire with fire when I came to the realization that the mods did little to nothing to curb the flaming. Once I started fighting back is when I started getting banned left and right.

As I've stated before...the admins need to make up their minds what kind of forums they want. After 4 years it's pretty much been having it both ways. I could name a number of people the mods have never heard of that are notorious for personal attacks in league forums.

If the site had been properly moderated when you first began playing, those trolling you would have been banned, which would mean you would not have learned to behave as them, which is what got you banned.

That is kind of my point. If we didn't do things to each other that would cause us to get banned, nobody'd get banned

From the looks of it here, most of the mods are pretty immature. They haven't yet learned that things aren't black and white.

I mean, it's like saying that the American Anthropological Association is the only worthwhile source for anthropological research or something. Any rational person would know that there are likely many more sources that are worthwhile.

You also have to keep in mind the diehards have pretty much taken the game over. There's really nothing interesting to read so it's troll or log off and not bother with the forums. I couldn't give two shits about who has the highest EL and such. Back in the day these forums were more interesting and now they are simply a snoozefest. Trolling is pretty much all there is to do now.

I remember back in the day when you could have an owner and agent go at it for 20 pages and then when the thread got boring a mod would step in and lock the thread. A few seasons ago I called the owner of a team I was associated with a "build nazi" in our league forum and received a 7 day ban for personal attack. You see where I'm going with this?

I'm with the mods on here. No matter how good or bad they are mature people will obey the rules no matter what. You know the rules, so abide by the rules.

The only part I hate that people do is the trolling. I know there aren't a lot of good people on this forum but I really wish the trolling would stop, It's gotten a little out of hand I think.

You do realize you are completely contradicting the jest of this thread, right?

The claim was that the rules are not specific enough and aren't being accurately enforced as they are written.... i.e. letter of the law.

You are now complaining basically the opposite by saying that things aren't just "black and white" thus the laws do NOT always need to be enforced, which is pretty much what the mods in this thread have been saying. The posters on this site do NOT want the rules enforced to the letter of the law or they really wouldn't be able to post anything.

In the end though, no matter what is done you will have some disagree with it. If it's too strict, then some that want freedom to play will be mad. If you are too lenient, then it will drive away a lot of people (seen it too many times). In the end, when people on both sides are complaining it typically means there is a happy medium being observed. While that is not currently happening, it is not nearly as extreme as the vocal minority want to pretend.

No offense, no personal attacks meant but... you're one of the main reasons why I don't post in the forums as much as I did anymore. Trolling is annoying, and I know I need to just ignore them but they really do get boring and people need stop it and let the thread's discussion continue.

Out of respect I put my $0.02 on the table.

interesting that its easy to agree with both the folks in support of the suggestion and the folks who aren't. shows that there is certainly a lot of grey area here.

I personally like to see the kind of spirited discussions jdbolick is often involved in, but rather than ban people when those get out of hand the Mods should simply move the the thread (or parts of it that have gotten off-topic). If some kind of punitive action is absolutely warranted, RESTRICT (rather than ban) the "offenders" to posting only in a "penalty box" type area within the non-public/adults only area and just move all offending threads there and limit the offenders to posting only there.
