so, the arguement that prices will go down with capitalism and competition is incorrect. and if prices don't go down, i can't imagine they wont go up

They will come down in general. There will be more competition, which usually drives prices down.

when you involve the government, since they WILL tax it, they will regulate prices to prevent monopolies

I agree with Fool on this one. If they were to legalize it sooooo many people would be out of a job. I'm sure in these desperate financial times the actuaries working for the govt are looking at every little avenue to bring in revenue and this theory just does not hold water.Legalizing marijuana would actually hurt the economy. Is it the right thing to do? probably Will they? absolutely not.

I don't agree, we will always be able to create a new villian, a new devil for us to prosecute and work against

The government is a business, they can easily manipulate themselves, change their name and say they have been for "social freedom" all along man. they don't have to admit they were wrong, they just have to change their name and give a new study that says weed aint so bad after all and they were right all along. the last two democratic presdents have both admited to smoking weed, it would be easy for them to say they were against it after all.

True that the government can do as they please. But that doesnt change the fact that after they have been fighting a "war" against pot since the 60's and their stance has not waivered at all and they have been spending ALOT of taxpayers money, that its not in their minds that if they cave in now, everything went for naught and they look completely stupid.........more stupid than normal.

The US in general has barely budged an inch in their stance, while many other countries have lessened their restrictions quite a bit.

You cant stop individuals from growing though. Pot isnt Tobacco. There are no alcohol monopolies.

Sure some jobs would be lost but at the same time, plenty of jobs would be created.

of course not, so will everyone just buy and trade weed amongst there friends? how do you sell that? if everyone grows their own weed what is the governments incentive to leagalize it? so they have to stop taxing us to launder their own money through jails? please

If they do legalize it, it will most likely be heavily restricted at first. It will probably still be illegal to grow your own, and doing so will probably get you fined.

No but some will. Alot of people wont though and thats where the government will make cash. Not everyone has "street" ties.

Alcohol is still the example to use. Government makes plenty of cash from it, people can make their own but never enough people to affect the governments profitability. But even home brewers still buy from stores to check out the product.

Pot can go the same route easily.

I agree that pot should be legal, but i don't really see a good reason for the governemtn to do it that also benefits the people, other than a bunch of pot heads can smoke with less feare... oh wait, no you can't because i can't smoke in my favorite pool hall because they serve chicken wings now. oh i can't smoke in my favorite bar. oh they want to make it illegal to smoke at public parks.... hmmmm seems like i have to smoke at my house then huh in privacy.... wait. now i'm in stuck at home because its illegal to smoke and drive... well... guess i won't be smoking anytime soon. good thing i decided to legalize pot so people can sell weed to be without fear, or i can grow my own weed at my house

Lol, you really know how to take something and run with it dont you. No its not like alcohol in that respect.

And who cares really, cigarette smokers get by. They can go smoke outside, plenty of places where smoking is and most likely always will be allowed. Big tobacco wont let the government kill their industry off totally. I wouldnt have a problem having to go outside to toke.

Were not trying to get pot legalized so we can all go smoke pot at the local pub.

my point is i would rather us work together to get the government out of our personal lives inthese aspects as opposed to handing them control over our weed
