Ask NFL scouts that question. Why do they love DEs who can run a 4.6? IDK, maybe it has to do with the way pass-rushing is THE most important factor in stopping the pass at any level.

they love them cause they want to convert them to OLB's in the 3-4.

Of course that would cause them to suddenly become all retarded, slow, and weak in GLB.

Like 4.6-running Mario Williams? Or Julius Peppers? Or Reggie White? Or Dwight Freeney? Or Derrick Burgess? Or Osi? Or Jason Taylor? The list goes on and on but maybe you get the point: speed IS important for rushing the passer at DE.

I've tried explaining this so many times, and it never seems to sink in.

How much do each of those guys bench and squat? How many reps could they do at 225?

Speed is important, but it is also only part of the equation. There are multiple reasons Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson, and Ronnie Lott couldn't play DE and lack of speed wasn't one of them.

Very true, but the point was refuting the claim that DEs DO NOT need speed.

I was going to retire my DE before this season because I had faith that Bort would address the DE/OT interaction this year.

So I'm not paying to boost my DE and he's going to retire ASAP.

True. None of those guys are playing DE in 3-4 systems, although Reggie, Mario, and probably Julius could.

That's why because DEs in the 34 aren't used to rush the passer, that's not how that system works. They're used to occupy blockers so those OLBs don't have to beat a tackle to the QB, just a RB or a TE.

Totally beside the point I believe was being made. Primus asks why the NFL covets 4.6 DEs, Bloodfart says the NFL wants to convert them all to 3-4 LBs and gets a list of 4.6 DEs who play pass-rushing, 4-3 DE shoved in his face (disproving his previous claim). Then he asks if they are all 3-4 DEs? Does not add up, and I think he totally lost track of what he himself was talking about.
