In the planning stages for this tournament we even talked about a champions league, but decided it would take too much work and too long of a time commitment. A 3 round single elimination tournament of the Pro Champs was both exciting and, just as important, feasible.

SI's tournament was a good idea, but organizing something of that size in this game is pretty difficult and frustrating.

I hope that Bort will eventually take this idea and make it official. Take the 8 Pro champs each season and have an official offseason tournament. It could easily be done in 3 days or 6 days and would give people something to watch, talk and complain about during an otherwise busy but boring offseason.

I think we'll see a champions league that PRO teams feed into rather than a tourney

Schedule Set For Semi-Finals Of Inaugural GLB World Cup Play

Now that the physical and emotional first round of games of the Inaugural GLB World Cup are completed, the four remaining teams are resting and training for the chance to win their game and advance to the first ever GLB World Cup. And the play of those four teams in the first round really sent the excitement level through the roof as the Championship game draws closer.

The Inaugural GLB World Cup Round #2 Games:
===========================================

Semi-Final #1 -- scheduled 10 / 11 at 0900
-------------
1. North American Cup Champion.....Arctic Bay Yetis http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=222
4. Europa Cup Champion.............Woodridge Lumberjacks http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=299

In the first semi-final, the North American Cup Champion Arctic Bay Yetis square off against the always-tough Woodridge Lumberjacks, the Europa Cup Champions. Yeti DE Corn Head, proving why he dishes out more sack lunches than any other defender in GLB play, heads up a tough defense that is certain to give the Lumberjacks fits. "With our defense and ability to mix it up on offense when we want, the Lumberjacks will have their hands full" said Yeti owner Mini-Husk. But Lumberjacks owner morbo expressed the same level of confidence in his team. "QB Marlo Stanfield can really take over control of a game with his arm and vision" said morbo. "And our defense is just about the most consistent in all of GLB."

Semi-Final #2 -- scheduled 10 / 13 at 1800
-------------
2. OCEANIA...........Banzai Pipeline 'Nites http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=596
3. SOUTH AMERICA.....Santiago Benitos http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=486

In the second semi-final, the Pacific Cup Champion Banzai Pipeline 'Nites face the upstart Santiago Benitos, overtime winners of the Equatorial Cup championship game. The 'Nites showcase a smash-mouth, grinding rushing game, but owner lukin83 warned their offense was one to be reckoned with. "Accurate passing and intricate WR routes are just as much a part of our offense as the rushing game" said lukin83. But it would be hard to argue that there is any better passing attack than the one served up by the Santiago Benitos. "QB Ben Randall is simply the best there is in GLB" said Benitos owner Havoc. "And our rushing defense will be up to the task.

The winners of the semi-final matches will face off in the Inaugural GLB World Cup Championship Game, date to be announced.

I agree to an extent. I would like to see the 8 leagues be equal though. Bort would have to re-organize all the best teams into the 8 Pro Leagues.

There is no question in anyone's mind right now that USA AAA is >>>> EE Pro or Africa Pro. No one even disputes that.

So a team that began in USA A and in 2 seasons is now up to USA AAA doesn't get to compete, but a team that started 2 seasons ago in a much weaker Africa AAA and is now the Africa Pro champs is in? How is that fair??

(just an hypothetical example - not a knock on any team).

The GB Maulers or Doomsday Sin could EASILY make an argument that they would be more deserving than a few of these teams.

It's for the specially selected champions of 6 of the top 15 leagues (I'm not sure what rank Africa Pro is anymore, but I'm sure it isn't in the top 15 leagues).

It would be equivalent to the NBA inviting these teams to the playoffs from last year:

Atlantic Representitive: Toronto Raptors**
Central Champs: Detroit Pistons
Southeast Representitive: Washington Wizards ***
ACC Champ: North Carolina Tarheels

Northwest Champ: Utah Jazz
Pacific Champ: LA Lakers
Southwest Champs: New Orleans Hornets
Big East Champ: Georgetown Hoyas

**Best team Boston Celtics decline to participate so 2nd place Toronto Raptors in instead

*** SE champ Orlando Magic went out of business after the season so 2nd place Washington Wizards will take their place.

I mean it would still be some damn fun basketball games, but the leagues selected and the teams that couldn't/wouldn't participate make it no longer valid as the GLB "Champion". Just as my tournament didn't prove anything because top teams like the Nighthawks and Galaxy Aces didn't participate.

For Bort to choose the 8 Pro Leagues as the best leagues would piss off alot of AAA teams unless they were given a chance to switch leagues in a fair manner.

What you have is a very nice exhibition of 8 top 25 teams. 4 or 5 of the 8 could be argued as top 8 teams. Alot of kudos to the winner, but not the undisputed champ if that is what you are going for.

Boston Nighthawks still own at least 1/2 of that crown as long as they are USA Pro Champs and there is no Ultimate league.

likely correct, though their odds of winning are probably only like 55-60% imo

Go Benitos! The Latinos of GLB are pulling for you!

But yeah, I think the leagues need to be reorganized within each region before anything like this can be validated. But this tournament is arguably the most excitable one yet (not the most popular, I think SI can attest to that statement...)

Boston Nighthawks forfeited their half of crown when they chose not to defend it.

First off, I will disput your claim tha USA AAA is >>> than EEP. We have beaten USA pro, Canada PRO and SE Asia Pro teams in a few tournaments. The SGA is up to the challenge. If your saying that EE as a whole is down, I agree, if your saying that the top teams cant play with EVERYONE else, your wrong...

secondly... It was never stated as a fair tournament. It was a tournament that more than a few people would like to see, Its a step in the right direction. thats all.

Of course I mean the entire league. I know your team is good, but do you even make it to the league Championship game if you had to play the Cincinnati Shockers in round 1? Maybe not.

I just meant the quality and depth of your league isn't sufficient to say #2 in your league > #4 or #5 in USA AAA.

You know I respect your team.

I'll give you a better example. If USAORG couldn't have participated, then the #2 team from that league would likely have lost by 60+ points to any of these other 7 teams.

I'm not saying your team wasn't a worthy top 8 selection (I think it was), but I'm just saying that your weak opponents that you are beating in league right don't prove it, nor would a league championship this year because the competition is so weak. That's all.
