Its funny that they keep crying about a 'bad call' that was applied exactly how the rulebook reads. They dont cry that Woodson made a personal foul on the play that might have caused Brady to 'fumble' in the first place. They dont cry about the Raiders taking a knee and not having the balls to go for the win. You play to win the game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zLlIdZikDk
They're complaining because its a terrible rule. also, when Brady stops moving the ball forward, he doesn't attempt to tuck it. he holds it with both hands. And what are you talking about with Woodson and a personal foul? he had one hand on Tom's shoulder and the other hit the ball
NFL Rule 3, Section 22, Article 2, Note 2. When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble.
His second hand had just touch the ball when Woodson slapped him in the helmet. And the announcer states around the 5:00 mark that Brady was bringing the ball back in, which according to the rule is covered under the 'Tuck rule'. Im not going to say I agree with it, cause I dont but they didnt get the call wrong. Raiders fans didnt get cheated, they (like many other people) just dont agree with the rule. But as the rule states the play went down exactly how its written.
You are right about Woodsons hand being on Bradys shoulder, but your wrong about the second hand being on the ball. Proof of the presonal foul can be seen here: Head slap is at the 3:49 mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDQAmuZ8t94&feature=player_embedded
HEAD SLAP
Article 2 A defensive player shall not contact an opponent above the shoulders with the palm of his hands
except to ward him off on the line. The exception applies only if it is not a repeated act against the same
opponent during any one contact.
LEGAL CONTACT
Article 3 A defensive player may use the palm of his hands on an
an opponent’s head, neck, or face only to
ward off or push him in an actual attempt to get at a loose ball.
At 3:49 that was a head slap, straight to the side of the helmet, not the ball.
Roughing the passer was called here and these rules against head slaps were not even in the rule books yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jln47i31ps
