Think about all the previous mediocre players that have a hard time finding teams. This type of league could be a good niche for them.

Let's get this done Bort!

Knick said he would put this on the list of things that Bort needs to address, but it's not sim or VA related -- which is what I'm sure he has his hands full with right now.

Hopefully once the new season starts, and everything that got changed this past offseason has already been nerfed a couple of times, he will be able to sit down and address this. I'm willing to show some patience for the time being while the sim is being refined for the upcoming season, because that's definitely a higher priority.

This is the first time I stumbled upon this absolute genius of a thread so I give it a huge +1. One question - would the new Iron Man league be just limited to advanced AI tactics or would there be a separate casual Iron Man league as well?

Most likely, it would be either 1 or the other. Doubt it would be both in the 1st season.

The prevailing wisdom seems to be that using the casual AI would be the best route to go because it will prevent over-exploitation of the roster restrictions. I'm personally on the fence and prefer Advanced AI because that's just how I roll, but I'll defer to the masses (and Bort's wisdom) when it comes to that detail.

I can definitely see the argument against allowing the DPC, since that might be easy to exploit in this type of league.

The biggest downside of using only a casual AI, though, is not being able to edit the playbook and get rid of the bushel of plays that aren't going to work for you depending on how you build your team.

If we could go with a casual AI but still allow playbook editing (a league setting that is not currently offered by GLB), that would seem to be the best of both worlds -- eliminating much of the exploit ability but also eliminating offensive plays that your team can't run effectively.

I completely agree with you. A mixture of the two would probably be best. I know I would purchase a team.

Downside: more programming adjustments = less likely to be implemented.

Yeah, but it's only a fine-print detail. I don't think the idea hinges on it.

Ultimately Bort's going to be the one to decide whether this is a Casual or Advanced league if he decides to create an Iron Man League. I think he'll see the logic in the argument for Casual with Playbook Editing, but just how much programming adjustment it would take will probably be the deciding factor.

Simply because my continued interest in GLB hinges on this idea being implemented.

It's on the short list of things to bring up to Bort after this season's sim manipulations are finished off. We probably won't hear anything about it until he has time to focus on other things. Hopefully that will be when the season starts, but you never know.

+1, although OOP penaltys should be reduced.

It was in Epic Suggestions, but was moved back to the main forum during the last phase of Project Bort. The reason for that was to un-clutter the Epic forum to make it easier to go through the suggestions there -- either to implement them, put them on the Not Going To Happen list, or because they needed more refining. Since this suggestion doesn't fall into any of those categories, it was bounced back here in what we hope will be a temporary move. This idea lives on because of all the great support and feedback it has received since it was first introduced on April 5.

It's easier to just c&p
