The easiest solution would simply be to not delete old alerts. I'm pretty sure we can handle that ourselves. Before they were removed I kept old alerts not only from bans but also when my players got a contract offer I wanted to remember or when I got a GM offer from a certain team, etc.

Well, it's not that easy when you consider the "ease" of maintaining a database table with going on 80 million rows and hundreds of gigabytes of data. Adding a column to the table would have taken a day or two of downtime.

And you have to realize that you are probably like the only person on the site that wants to hold onto four dozen ban alerts from four years ago but won't just make a google docs for them.

Don't know, sounds like some kind of javascript is breaking. Are you running any scripts?

My next statement is semi-technical and based on the last 8 years of working as a DBA and database developer...

Seriously? That should be a very narrow table. 80M rows is a lot of rows but the storage space seems bloated. As for adding a column, that should be pretty easy. Updating that column could definitely take time but days seems farfetched.

All that said, this seems to be the next in a long list of really silly GLB -gate scandals.

Just get rid of the wiki and shop since no one uses those and bring back alerts.

no scripts, just Internet Explorer is having issues atm. Firefox is ok but I don't really use that unless I'm game planning or something

You have to realize that just because you're talking to me and I put up with it doesn't mean you shouldn't watch your tone. This is the second trolling post you've made to me in the last couple of days. My understanding is that those in charge don't want you posting like Deathblade on the Corndog account. But for the record, you would be wrong, as Hottie2.0 also professed a desire to keep old alerts to track agents and teams. I really doubt we're the only two. Furthermore, not auto-deleting alerts beyond a certain time period has nothing whatsoever to do with maintaining the database. In fact, it's 'easier" not to do so and simply have them processed in the same manner as PMs.

As Bort mentioned, anyone who'd like to save their old Alerts can send in a Support ticket to have them retrieved. I've only seen one such request so far (yours), but if all the other Alert fans let us know we can get them taken care of.

What exactly is the shop anyway?

Also, the grey alert bar still on some of the pages: Games, survivor, tactics, account settings. Also, chat is still there as well.
