The recent ones where you dig in the forums based on clues are super simple to do.

either one is fine.

No, I'm suggesting that whoever defines the role of moderator does so with the understanding that those on the receiving end of moderation are paying customers. That means a portion of what has been mischaracterized as "game is broken" posting should be re-positioned as "that's why we have forums--we want their feedback". That mindset has to start with whomever is at the top and deemed to be responsible for the mod staff.

The Moderators don't define what gets locked, and the "game is broken" threads are one of those things.

There is a difference between a complaint thread, or I'm mad at GLB thread, versus a genuine, "Wow there is something wrong with the game/sim, etc"

Since I've been a Moderator, I do approach all Mod duties with the Golden Rule in mind, and I think many(most) of the rest of the staff do as well. I also know if you address your issues to Pallow and/or Support, they do tend to get addressed directly if there is something done unacceptably.

*clears throat*

Umm, shouldn't some of you repeat posters be somewhere "testing" that other game?

There's a huge amount of subjectivity in both locks & bans, as evidenced by some moderators participating in threads that then get locked by another one. To some degree that's unavoidable, but a lack of direction at the top greatly exacerbates the inconsistency.

Which was a significant portion of the point I made--a portion of what has been mischaracterized as "game is broken" posting should be re-positioned as "that's why we have forums--we want their feedback". That mindset has to start with whomever is at the top and deemed to be responsible for the mod staff.

This is a fair point and I think, again, with the new forum setup, will be mitigated to a large extent, as many things for users and Mods will be better defined.

Sorry for your frustration on that part, I do understand but I can only tell you my experience and I have seen this addressed previously.

Pallow is definitely our "boss", although he too has a boss, DD & Bort.

How about just enforce the rules equally.

I was banned for posting Porn(Something I thought to be really stretching the definition of the rule) and the ruling was backed by support. Now I see it done and the Mods and Admins do nothing about it.

I was told by an Admin that the rules have not changed after receiving a ban. The ban was due to a series of posts, by me, that occurred after a FAQ Question regarding the posting of porn was locked unanswered by a LEAD MODERATOR.

So when I post "porn" and someone else posts "porn" I get a ban and they do not.

This is the first thing that needs to get fixed.

Moderators locking a thread in FAQ that can only be answered by MODS/ADMINS without answering the question needs to stop too.

Ponders what would happen if one were to ask a question, frequently, in the Frequently Asked Questions forum.

Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmmm?" (BTW, welcome back Arsenio!)

You know there is a problem when glbfan#1 aka Larry lardgrinder has issues with the game in some regard.

Moderator = thankless job.

To those of you silent majority who understand why moderation is needed on the site and appreciate that we do in fact lock about 10 threads a day in GLB main alone, from about the same 10 people who are so mad about whatever that they just have to go on and on about how terrible this game is (that they choose to log into everyday), I say to you "You're welcome, it's my pleasure to provide you a better gaming experience."

I don't think it is a terrible game. Quite the opposite, I love the game in most of the aspects that make it a game. It is quite irritating to see moderators continually post statements like that, because it only shows that you dont even understand the nature of the problem. It has already been quantitatively confirmed that you do get thanks, in the form of daily flex stipends, as well as an aire of superiority that some (certainly not all) mods carry around the forum with them.

I think the state of the forum moderation is a symptom of the lack of direction and general cares from the present administration rather than personal failings or whatever..
