If w_alloy and Valhalla didn't quit, then HHWC doesn't 3-peat way back 20 seasons ago. I understand and admit this.
If HHWC didn't lose its cares after winning a bunch of titles, then the "old-timers" like Hays might not have championships to their name today and wouldn't even be talking right now. Shit, HHWC should have 4-peated but we lost the championship game to Odessa when I was on vacation and unable to gameplan. After that loss, we took a long break and "new" teams at the time started winning championships.
Bottom line though. Champion is a champion. You win the world league, get your ring, enter the moon league, and a few seasons from now you'll be demanding respect from the new blood. Its all part of the cycle boys.
Maybe someone who has actually been up here a while has more credibility than you when it comes to judging the past versus the present. You're jabbering like those hyperactive teenagers who insist that music is better now than ever before because it's easier to get exposure and technology allows you to do more things. The same decline in activity and interest that has affected GLB as a whole has obviously done a number on the WL as well. Not nearly as many people are trying to get up here, and not nearly as many people up here are trying hard to win. Why do you think they condensed the Pro leagues? Why do you think even WL teams are having to accept flawed dots in recruiting? There isn't nearly as much dot-talent in the game now as there used to be.
Furthermore, sim-changes and things like diminishing returns on % AEQ have radically reduced the challenges you face. No longer do you have to double team Valhalla WRs because they'll always catch anything in single coverage. No longer do you have to worry about jdros' or evileyez's linebackers. No longer do you have to worry about getting too big an early lead on HHWC and risk Big Heart kill you. You don't have Bonn's suffocating zone defense. You don't have a Jedi Knight shredding your defense. You can actually hold blocks and break tackles against a tautology defense. And for that matter, you barely even have to worry about special teams returns anymore. This isn't just nostalgia. A lot of the things Bort did to change the game was to reduce the things that used to be so powerful. All that combined with decreased interest/effort means that it's nowhere near the challenge it used to be. I had to struggle to make the playoffs in the old days. I could do it in Alpha without changing my AIs the entire season. The dots today might have higher player value, but they aren't nearly as powerful as the old ones were. And P@nda is correct that coordination now is about being vanilla and minimizing risk as opposed to enforcing your will. Lastly, if you think that GLB doesn't have far less people trying to win now than it used to, then you're out of your mind. GLB in general isn't what it used to be, so of course the WL isn't either.
Not that I've ever won as an owner or coordinator, but it reminds me of beating a video game. You're so pumped and then it ends up being so anticlimactic.

I remember as a youngster....playing the baseball games and going through an entire 162 game season and then being WS Champions....and then was like oh......that was a complete waste of time
Originally posted by jdbolick Or to put it another way, in the sTeens I was a good coordinator who kept barely making the playoffs. In the sTwenties I was a great coordinator who started making noise in the playoffs. In the sThirties I have been one of the best coordinators and won the WL. I didn't actually get any better during that time.
So GBB winning it all this season, right? Chop chop!

Pretty true. On madden I will sit there and go through careers just trying to break all the records and then I get there and it is like...well now what?
When ESL won WL it was like oh shit we won. Then a day later it was like ah fuck we gotta recruit. And then the new season started and I just started to really lose the mentality to do much of anything until it came to playing the second round of the playoffs from there on out.
Although the at least fun part about back then was that a new sim would hit and you had to spend the preseason figuring shit out. Which was always the whole fun part about being a coordinator to me. Figuring out a new sim, adapting to it, and then staying ahead of the game. We have been in this loop for so long now the game has just come to a halt.
