I OC this team - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=676

We didn't build very effectively and therefore only have an APV of 1287. OffTopica Miracle has an APV of 1307. So technically, the individual dots are better on your team. But I guarantee you we would beat you 100 times out of a 100, and frankly it wouldn't even be close.

Actually, I have to take this back... just noticed you've got jpjn94 as your OC and he's pretty damn good.

We beat you, but you did make a game of it so for that I give you props.

If I had your winos tagged we might have even won.

Yes jp is a boon. New to the team this season.

On the flip side, if not for a special teams return and two lost fumbles, you might have been blown out.

Can we just get a mod in here to say NGTH and lock this up?

Question: WHERES the fun factor when there are so many blowouts? WHAT IF less nerdified dots could compete?

But you aren't getting beat 255-0 nor have I seen any legitimate teams getting beat 255-0. A couple of coasters out there sure...but thats more of those teams not trying in their first Pro season than it is trying & failing.

And I assure you that an HCreek L72 team is not getting beat 255-0 in Pro if they are even remotely trying.

amazingly, when leagues are reasonable balanced, you get balanced scoring, no 255-0 games, etc.

the issue yellow is arguing is not builds mattering, randomness, etc. - it is balancing the leagues - he just doesn't know it

Well I have defenders looking for those turn overs so thats a cost of doing business - and it probably only worked because of your dots lower levels/APV.

My KR finally got a TD? In a scrim? Argh. Would be nice for that to happen in a league game. Getting nice yards but no 7 pointers yet.

That is actually entirely my point.

Since Bort will not adjust the build system to make balance a natural result of the process (ie make it a real Pro Ball sim where all the dots are Pro qualified by the very nature of the building choices), the only other way to manage it is to boost performance some way or another. A random element lets that happen. If you further modify the rolls for "looking past" games and it happens even more often. But I didn't put that obvious addition to the idea in the OP since it would have diverted the conversation.

But its got to be done some how. Contraction and Shuffling will not get it done. Its got to be done in the builds.

I wasn't talking about my team.

As for HCreek I was talking about his team as one example actually. Beat by at least 61 (my team) and up to 255.

By expanding the ranges of performance through random increases and decreases of small amounts, you allow more overlap between build quality groups. Thus you get more balanced play on some portion of your plays and games. Sure you also get even bigger disparity, but those dots were going to get beat anyway without randomization. So the net result is a plus for balance.

As has been noted there is ALREADY a random element to play. Therefore discussing adjustments to the range of random is logically within the Could Happen category. Despite your petulant desires to the contrary.
