I think it has a lot to do with the "War on Drugs" being very lucrative for the the military industrial machine. Without an enemy to fight, those profits decline, and the lobbyists have less money to stuff into the pockets of the lawmakers.

Not that it is an impossible hurdle, though.. Just have to shift the paradigm from the weapon makers filling the politicians' pockets with green to the weed growers filling the politicians' pockets with green (preferably both varieties of green).

my thing is, if you hand weed over to the corporations like marlboro - quality goes down and we get taxed

if you just keep jailing the drug dealers for supplying a quality product - we get taxed to feed these guys and hosue them for 4 years either way we get fucked and taxed

tbh, I think it was profiling. I'm a hispanic male and i think they questioned my legal status. they harassed me a little and i didn't have an ID on me either. so it just made it worse. I was born in the united states and it really hurt my feelings. but after the whole ordeal i don't think they could just let me go so they cited me for not having a business license

Wow. That's total bullshit. Who the fuck just starts harassing a guy mowing a lawn. I'm assuming you live in a conservative town that doesn't have a large hispanic population?

I live in las vegas. the south west is full of illegal immigrants and they have been really cracking down on it. You see guys infront of home depot getting arrested everyday. what happen to me. that was over 5 years ago. not much has changed

I think Prohibition drives the price so high. They call MJ weed, because it grows like one. With anybody and everybody being allowed to grow, do you think it would still fetch $250-400 an ounce, when similar plants fetch a tiny fraction of that amount? I don't think so. The corps surely would mark it up, but private growers would keep them in check.

private growers? like all of our other produce right?

The big companies will, but smaller companies will focus on quality, not quantity. This happens w/ all products. Budweiser and Coors aren't the only beers, you know. You can buy microbrews pretty much anywhere.

You could always move to L.A. The LAPD is now mostly hispanic, so they probably won't arrest you for mowing a lawn while being hispanic.

Edit: Scratch that... I don't think I want you living in my city.

If the government wanted their "piece of the pie", they would just legalize it, they are the ones holding it up. But they cant concede after all these years and millions spent, that they were wrong, cause if they legalized it, in essence thats what they would be doing.

This has some merit. The military does love their money and so do the crooked politicians and the war on drugs is the perfect cover. Thats not to say that the fight against hard drugs shouldnt be stopped.

As you said though, there just needs to be a shift of sorts. Government can still make plenty of cash off of legalizing it. Though maybe they have worked it out already and fighting it still makes them more money than legalizing it.

which brings me back to prices. 4 or 5 dollar micro brews, or a buck fifty drafts of coors

The government is a business, they can easily manipulate themselves, change their name and say they have been for "social freedom" all along man. they don't have to admit they were wrong, they just have to change their name and give a new study that says weed aint so bad after all and they were right all along. the last two democratic presdents have both admited to smoking weed, it would be easy for them to say they were against it after all.

The medical marijuana co-op located in Inglewood (near LA) sells a delightful Cheesecake pie. It's $5 a slice last time I was there, but it will set you straight for the better part of a day. (by straight I mean non-stop giggles).

Well that's just how it's going to work, no matter what. You could by a half ounce of cheap regs for $50 or you could buy an eighth of good stuff.

so, the arguement that prices will go down with capitalism and competition is incorrect. and if prices don't go down, i can't imagine they wont go up

They will come down in general. There will be more competition, which usually drives prices down.
