Not really true. Of course you will likely throw a few in but you don't have to play zone and go 30% pitch to do it.

Outside Blocker is a perfectly viable VA if it is limited to players lined up in one of the 5 traditional OL positions.


No, it isn't. +30% to 4 stats for the entirety of a play is not a perfectly viable VA.

The VA doesn't need to be limited to position; it needs to be limited in effect.



w/o Outside Blocker you'd be hardpressed to find a single guard capable of doing anything on plays where they are supposed to pull AND DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE. Because of TE and FB specialized depth charts (TE in particular) you can create a player who hits the edge and pancakes two or even three dots in rapid succession. There's absolutely no drawback since you can put the elite blocking TE back on the shelf when you want to experiment with the forward pass.

Again, take away Outside Blocker from the TE, FB, and occasional WR and you'd see a very reasonable pitch/screen metagame in GLB.
