I like the idea, but could it be used by disgruntled players to force a release from a team they are under contract to?

Now there is the first potential abuse point I've seen so far.

However, if the requirement is that the whole account is frozen, who would go to that much trouble - to be inactive from the game completely, just to let a team catch up to their uber-player?

Team owners could have a "release player to freeze" button.

Once all team owners of the user's players have clicked that button, players are dropped from all their teams, and the account is cryofrozen. That way, they know that they're not releasing the player to allow him to jump to other teams.

Should the world stop because some people are on duty?

How about if I fall into a coma?

How about if there is an earthquake in California or a hurricane in Florida?

This game isn't only played by americans either...

And... I may be wrong but I think they have internet almost everywhere, even in military camps.

so you're going to tell you you planned your coma or earthquake then came on to freeze your account? yea didn't think so... this just gives soldiers an opportunity to not abandon the game and honestly they arent going to be worrying about this with the computer time the do get deployed, they will probably be thinking about family

Yeah, the do have internet access in most FOB's. If you want to wait in line for literally 3 hours, to get 10 minutes on a computer when you are more concerned about finding out how their kids are, and what their family is doing than this game.

Alrigth... Why they should have the privilege to freeze their account when they know for weeks in advance that they are going oversea?

When they'll get back, the game would have new rules, new nerfed skills and different upgrades that their players wouldn't have had the chance to follow... They should just retire their players and make new ones when they come back.

Just think about YOU taking a leave of, what, four months off GLB... Would you want to keep your old out-dated characters and try to catch up on everything?

And if they only think about family when they are deployed, for how long would it be a reasonable amount of time to let their account frozen when they are back, with the time they have to make up with their family? That would be unmanageable

That's fine, and I would agree with that, but now you're leaving the team in a bad spot. Losing a player or many, and not everyone has that kind of notice, I had 3 weeks notice, and all that time was filled with shots, equipment issue, and things, and knew of others with 72 hours notice.

Well... that is sad... It really is...

But what notice do you get when a hurricane, a flood or an earthquake is about to hit your neighborhood? For how long will you be away from an internet hookup in those circumstances?

surely this is to allow people who have predictable absences (like those in the forces) on the horizon to do something about it rather than to cater for all emergencies and natural disaster

Take a look here...

http://goallineblitz.com/changelog.html

If you have the opportunity to freeze your account for a certain amount of time. What are the chances that your frozen players be able to catch up with all the changes that occured during your leave?

Are you also going to ask for a chance to re-roll your players too?

Active or inactive, players have to deal with changes every season.

Even if you build a new player now according to the new game, the game will have changed a few seasons down anyway.

I think this is a good idea for anybody wanting to take a break from the game, whatever the reasons. As long as all the players are frozen as a whole.
