You could, in the defensive play builder, put the CB3 where the 2nd SS would be, but then if you run a nickel and you have the CB3 playing like a, well, like a CB3 you'd have a guy with a 4-2-5 safety build playing in a coverage corner role. Wouldn't be very practical. In the 4-2-5 the SSs play up sort of like OLBs, essentially making it kind of a 4-4 look with different alignments. The only safety you have "back" is the FS.

Most CB's, LB's, and Safeties are built the same anyway.

True, but some SSs are built with more focus on pass coverage and some are built with more of a focus on run-stuffing... Same with LBs. If we have the ability to go out and recruit SSs AND LBs it could add a whole new dimension to the game. On my team right now I have 2 LBs above level 30 and 2 SSs above level 30. Why can't I compensate for a hole in my personnel by putting in a defense that would help me? If i have 8 LBs but I'm thin on my D-line I can switch to a 3-4. if I'm thin up front but I've got tons of CBs I can switch to a 3-3-5. Allowing defensive coordinators to go hog-wild with their defenses would allow people to compensate for holes in their roster by trying different alignments.

I see it potentially causing problems...but I guess it would be neat.

Well, sure, but it'd add to the strategy. if some DC gets cute and uses some wonky defense then opposing teams would have even more of an ability to game plan to take advantage of those weaknesses. Plus, as a DC, if you have a team that desperately outlevels you the play creator would give you the ability to double- or triple-team the major threats and try to level the playing field.

I just see the ability to really modify the defense freely introducing large amounts of strategy into the game.

I like the idea of being able to essentially "build" my own defense, but this still doesn't allow me to do it.

I want to run a 4-2-5 defense that only has two CB's and three safties, but I can only get it to work with 3 cb's and 2 safeties.

I can't adjust it that way with the DC either because there will be times I will run a dime or nickel and want the 3rd CB slot filled with a CB.

I would like to be able to insert any position into the build, rather than being stuck with 3 corners and trying to build a 4-2-5 from a nickel set.

You can essentially make a CB a Safety...just move him back.

This isn't the case, the 3rd CB is limited to where he can be placed, you can only move him to just outside the DE, I have stunts and blitzes in mind where he would start inside, go outside, etc....

And this totally ruins my nickel defense where I would want a 3rd CB in the CB slot.

allow us to set in man coverage if they stay in to block, then blitz...very simple addition, add the blitz option to one of the "ors"

No word from Bort yet on implementing any of these ideas? I think there's a lot here...hopefully he looks through and sees them aoon and implements a large portion of them (particularly mine )

It would also be nice for a stand-alone one that people who were not DC's could mess with and try out.

We would like various agents on one of our teams to try it out, but don't want them all looking at the defensive AI and possibly messing it up.

A standalone one that didn't require DC access to try out would be nice.

I did not read every post, but early on in this thread someone asked about moving D-lineman around... I would be happy if we could just shift them to the strong side or weak side like the LB's. It would create more blitz holes, close more running lanes and would be a first step to stunting.

Option 2 would only be used if his Man he is supposed to cover is staying in to block. Higher vision would let him recognize if he is blocking earlier or not and how fast he switches to option 2.

Say:
MLB Cover Option 1: HB
MLB Cover Option 2: FB

You can already do that.

You can't do that, though. Each player does have a fallback if their assignment ends up being null. Most will just play a short zone where they are.

You will not be able to move players around more than they currently are allowed to, at least until I can test larger movements. This is mainly to contain exploits.

Also, I've tested the "stack up the LB's" nanoblitzes and they don't really work very well. You're better off blitzing from multiple angles.

That would work...just add a 6th option dropdown: "blitz" or "short zone"
