Who cares? You guys bitch when the mods do their jobs and now you're bitching that they don't log in enough. Make up your minds already.

Because #1) familiarity has no correlation with competence, #2) it causes decision-making to be emotional rather than rational, and #3) it promotes favoritism. Bort had a potentially amazing product here and to some degree it was successful, but it's easy to imagine it being vastly moreso had he teamed up with someone who had actual business experience (or sold it to someone who did). It's been clear all along that many of the problems with how the site is run stem from naivete, ignorance, and amateurism.

Well...

I don't know pretend to know the inner workings of GLB but I could imagine that there is a fair amount of work you could do without physically being logged in and posting on GLB's forums. Visibility is nice but not really a requisite for work.

But I understand the sadness.. quoting journey songs can take a toll on one's psyche.

We're all aware of that some of us have run browser/internet games before. This isn't any different from a MUD where you could be a 'GM' or 'Immortal' and set yourself as invisible.

Still - progress indicates work done. Forum progress after rule redo? 0%

Wouldn't it be cool if we could roll out new forum rules as the new game got rolled out though?

But the one thing you're forgetting is that it is his choice. This is not some government agency. The guy builds a great game. He can staff it how he likes.

We bitch when they do their job poorly. And when they don't apply the rules consistently.

Both of which is hard to do when a) you don't login for a week, b) the rest of the mod/admin team has multis running unchecked in the forums and c) your boss doesn't care about a and b.

You asked: "Why is anyone outraged that Bort would prefer to surround himself with family members and friends for the GLB staff?"

You're forgetting who you're talking to. I didn't forget anything of the sort, as I've been the one saying for years that Bort can do what he wants with his creation, but that what he's doing isn't conducive to success.

Bolick's point is simple. Bort is an amazingly talented programmer, and a visionary. If he'd actually spent money on a few other developers instead of a guy who draws mustaches for a living... where would GLB be now?

Bort would probably be rolling in a ferrari and smoking Cuban's like Tom Selleck in Magnum PI, and DD rolling in a pile of money in his own private octagon.

Instead - we are HERE - where one guy has been a casualty of budget cuts - and let all the dirt go.

Would have been even cooler if they fixed the forums for the good game instead of rolling out a new, shittier version and making promises about better forums nobody believes?

I'm sure they will but Cornblade / Bort & Thorn did all the work on the forum improvements.
