But 10,000 people aren't sitting on the sidelines refusing to play because the Big I is overpowered, roster sizes are too big or the O formations need to be flipped. Those things might prolong the decline and make the game more enjoyable while it does, but unless Bort has a plan to expand the user base, the decline will only be stalled for a bit and then march forward again.

This is certainly true. Anyone who thinks euclids comments means GLB is saved is out of their mind. Best we can hope for is that Bort+co decided to stop intentionally alienating a sizeable chunk of their userbase as the game floats quietly into the night.

Not to be a know-it-all jerk, but them revisiting GLB1 after the previous stance likely means GLB2/Mighty Brawlers were not nearly as successful as projected, which means the company's outlook as a whole may be grim. GLB2 makes the most money now, but I wouldn't surprise me at all of GLB1 is making more than mighty brawlers given the much larger userbase.

Fwiw Bort I'm willing to consult for WG for $100/hr and fix all your problems.

yeah it's too bad. I think a lot of us that are still here hope for the best but they would obviously have to be open to ideas on how to bring new blood to the game.

Not necessarily, I think insta79's would help out quite a bit, I love the game at plateau, but I've lost all enjoyment in building....so boring.

+1

If the hope is that 10,000 people are gonna sign back in and go to town like 6-7 years ago well that is just an incredible pipe dream.

Retain the customers you have with some fresh ideas for the game they love. Have Bort or have some dedicated guy sign on to Bort's account and have open discussions about neat ideas and suggestions people have. Or just pop in to say sup to the population. Anything to engage people even if it is just in forum conversation. If done right new people will come, old familiar faces will resurface.

Granted from Corndog's responses in GLB2, I am not even sure Bort is doing much coding anymore.

Its literally as easy as that. But bort can't shit out 1 minute of his life or sleep time to post a thread greeting the fellow loyal GLB Classic'ers.

Agree that nothing is going to make this game spark that level of interest. But if you like the game & want it to continue, there is no reason not to advocate for things you feel will improve it. I mean, we all know the likelihood of Bert doing anything on GLB1 is slim, let alone substantial improvements...but then we could also state water is wet & be equally as productive. Improving in my mind doesnt have to mean 10,000 users will love it...shit it doesnt have to mean 10 new users. It could just mean maintaining the current users and/or "ways to extract more money from current users".

It is a worthwhile exercise to think of this type of game in a 10,000 user sense. I think they have the right premise for that kind of game here in GLB1 but the amount of spaghetti code that has been created over the years means they'd have to rewrite a lot of things to make this game scale to that level. 10,000 regular users would have expectations that most of us can (and have) live without. 10k users would expect an OPC & DPC that doesnt have restrictions, because the core game mechanics dont allow for a skill (like speed for instance) to be double the other skills. That doesn't make a lot of intuitive sense and would have massive implications to rework as just one example of "things to do if you want 10k users". They tried to do this with GLB2 but unfortunately they threw the baby out with the bath water in the interest of "simplifying".

I still don't get why ppl think BigI is overpowered, because it isn't.

the problem is, they dont want to make any changes to the code. Once they change 1 thing in the code it leads for a potential snowball of other things, and they just dont want to deal with it. Unfortunately the sim is staying as it is IMO, the only thing that might/will change is contracting leagues. Even speeding up the build process takes a lot of calculations and will inevitably lead to more bugs and problems and support issues that they dont want to put time into.
