when it comes to the quality stuff where people sell the good stuff at thing like farmers markets or just home sales how do you tax it? the govt makes no money if you let street dealers walk around with ounces. when i was 16 i got a 150 dollar fine for mowing lawns for money without a business liscense. you think the govt will just let people walk around selling a great cash crop without a business liscense?

Did you really? That's pretty fucked up. Why would the gov't care if a 16 year old was mowing lawns? Unless you were using it as a front for your rum-running operation.

How did they know you were doing it? Did a cop just drive by while you were mowing a lawn and ask you for your permit or something? Or did somebody rat you out?

But the government saves millions upon millions of dollars that they would have spent on policing people for selling/growing/smoking it and housing otherwide innocent people in jail for selling/growing/smoking it.

Alcohol is a prime example of why pot should be legal, only difference is that alcohol is more dangerous than pot in many ways.

Quality does not suffer because of legalization.

tbh, I think it was profiling. I'm a hispanic male and i think they questioned my legal status. they harassed me a little and i didn't have an ID on me either. so it just made it worse. I was born in the united states and it really hurt my feelings. but after the whole ordeal i don't think they could just let me go so they cited me for not having a business license

Not at all, imo. In fact, I would think it would get better. People would have more freedom to experiment with different strands and what not. If you go to a medicinal marijuana dispensary, they have several different types of top quality kush.

I agree that alcohol is far more dangerous. I would much rather people smoke weed and drive then get drunk and drive.

but back to the business side of this. just by making it legal does not make the fact that people are runnign million dollar businesses will not still be prosecuted.if you think the govt is really upset about people smoking weed than you are crazy. all the govt wants is their cut of the pie.

Legalize it - that's simple.

As for corporations getting involved, why not? Everybody knows that the tomatoes you grow at home taste better than the ones you buy in the store, but the convenience is nice. Plus, wouldn't it be cool to drop into the 7-11 and order a pack of Marlboro Greens?

I've had a theory for a few years now that eventually marijuana will take over as the tobacco companies number 1 product.

If you have a corporation what is the main goal. largest profits with high effieciency. that means they will do whatever they ahve to, to make the biggest buds with the least ammount of waste. that does not nessicarily mean the highest quality for fair market price.

Wow. That's total bullshit. Who the fuck just starts harassing a guy mowing a lawn. I'm assuming you live in a conservative town that doesn't have a large hispanic population?

I think it has a lot to do with the "War on Drugs" being very lucrative for the the military industrial machine. Without an enemy to fight, those profits decline, and the lobbyists have less money to stuff into the pockets of the lawmakers.

Not that it is an impossible hurdle, though.. Just have to shift the paradigm from the weapon makers filling the politicians' pockets with green to the weed growers filling the politicians' pockets with green (preferably both varieties of green).

I think Prohibition drives the price so high. They call MJ weed, because it grows like one. With anybody and everybody being allowed to grow, do you think it would still fetch $250-400 an ounce, when similar plants fetch a tiny fraction of that amount? I don't think so. The corps surely would mark it up, but private growers would keep them in check.
