Well, he needn't bother hoping anymore. We now know what our ceiling is from DEs in this game. If you're okay getting a few sacks against gutted teams and very little (if any) success against equal competition, then DE is a great position for you to build. If not, look at other positions or for a different game. I wouldn't even judge the position's effectiveness based on sacks if hurries and pressure had any affect on the QB whatsoever. But they don't. It's either a sack or you were ineffective.

I actually appreciate you telling us that this is the way it is, Voltron. I was hanging on with my DE for a little bit longer just hoping that things would change. I mean, I've put 8 seasons into him, so I didn't want to just get rid of him on a whim and then the DE position get fixed the very next season. But if, as you say, Bort is totally happy with the way the DE position is going, then I don't have to wait any longer to retire mine. And I'm not meaning this in a mean-spirited way. Thanks for letting us know.

Excellent Post.

A big part of the problem is the feast/famine part of DEs too. If you have an awesome build then yeah, you can probably put up NFL-Like (not other position-GLB-like) numbers but if you have an average to good build, you're gonna get shut out a lot. You have to slow build with a purpose to have any kind of success.

play against good competition and all numbers are quite realistic. even rushing and passing numbers. play against dumb defenses and you'll have big numbers.

lol no.

DE's not working = working as intended

Well just make them really slow and overall pretty bad and they might get some hurries.

basically if you make your DE worse, he should do better

Yea just try to be so slow and unagile that the O-lineman gets bored with you and eventually ignores you, giving you a free path to the QB for a much wanted hurry.

Not that hurries do anything, or work correctly...

My thoughts exactly

Sometimes I think the only thing hurries are good for is to make the QB hurry to throw a reception.

If you think about it though, normally in the NFL, QB are hurried on nearly every play and they still throw 60%+ receptions. The low confidence ones are disrupted much more often. When do the pretty boys in GLB work that up? I'm assuming earlier than most positions?

Its amazing, one group whines about something, Bort makes a change, now a new group is whining about it. Seems to me poor Bort is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. I suggest you people go play Madden if you want unrealisitc sack numbers.

It's not that we want unrealistic sack numbers. It's that when all other numbers are unrealistic it's BS to tell DEs to just be happy with "realistic" sack numbers. It's not a good game when the score is 300-12, everyone else puts up ridiculous numbers, but DE is putting up "realistic" numbers.

Yeah but it was a real issue that needed to be addressed. I used to o.c. a USA PRO team in seasons 4 and 5. It was really redundant having to play mass protect every game and still get sacked. It's pretty hard game planning in the first place, then to have to worry about every D.E. you ever play against. That's just not real.

Should be able to play all scenarios out on the test server, implement a solution, then have it a go at live. Instead, let's bullshit all day and swim in the $ like Dagobert!
