fact of the matter is, we are great when we run the ball with mal. always have been. our passing has been dismal this season. seems like when we throw the ball, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. also the weakside runs are pretty crappy too.

in light of the information provided above, what sort of gameplan would you go with, offensively?

well of course that is the most effective gameplan(as it is for every team that has a powerback this season) and i'm well aware that ever since you acquired mal it has been mostly pounding it with him. i dont mind a good power running game at all. using the same play over and over again because it has been proven to be mostly unstoppable is what grates my nerves.

i would just try to be optimistic that Bort is going to fix this in the offseason... if teams are able to create their own defensive plays (probably using the defensive play creator), im pretty sure that would do the trick. look, i'm with you when it comes to the play being unstoppable... and it makes it even more difficult when its being run by a back like Mal.

but you cant blame us for the sim's flaws. its extremely hard to justify using a gameplan that isnt the most effective way to win. this is the nature of football.

ATOIAF is doing pretty much the same thing we're doing, and they also have a great back to run it. they kicked our asses with our own gameplan, so we know how it feels too. i dont think anyone wants the sim to be broken like this, but i definitely dont think ATOIAF should be messing around with passing the ball if their bread and butter is running.

Power backs in the NFL also don't run 45 damn times a game. Teams in the NFL don't run 45 times and pass only 7 (well, once in a great while they will, but a lot of those are direct snaps to the RB. Carolina vs Atlanta a couple of seasons back when Weinke was QB was an example).

Don't use the "real backs get stronger as the game goes on" excuse when i can't think any time in recent memory an RB ran 600 times in a season and didnt explode.

You know, back in the day, ALL they did was run the ball. In B&W TV days, QBs did nothing but hand the ball off.

Then someone threw a forward pass. In fact, the Pottsville Maroons changed the way the game was played with their gameplanning.

People called it 'cheating' then too. Now people expect it, and it's no longer as effective.

Just because you suck doesn't mean we cheated.

Stop kidding yourself. A running back should not be as strong and fast on the 45th carry as he is on the first. You and I both know it is total bullshit. Breaking a pile of tackles early when you're at full strength? Sure, not a problem. Massive broken tackles late in the game shouldn't be happening.

Obviously you've never played football before. Or at least been on the field during a grinding game. There are plenty of backs who get STRONGER as a game goes on. Emmit Smith, Jim Brown, Marshawn Lynch -- to name three off the top of my head. When you have a bruising running game where you're able to rotate OL to beat up on the DL -- that DL gets weaker and weaker as the game goes on and the HBs get stronger and stronger.

Factor in demoralizing factors in addition to fatigue and in REAL football this absolutely happens.

But GLB isn't real football. It isn't close to it.

Oh and you can say all you want about how you "We could have run 70 ties a game and probably won. Instead, we tried to make sure the entire team got to have some fun with the players they are paying real money for" -- that's nice and good. But wouldn't those people be having more fun if they were playing in Round 2?

depends on your definition of 'play'. i'm sure sitdown enjoyed his runningback's stats on his 6 plays with no carries.

Awww, go speak at the players union meeting, then.

hey its not my problem, i'm just saying i wouldnt pay money for that kind of 'playing'. but it is interesting that you have given up trying to defend your power running logic and resorted to personal attacks. running out of material?

I'll sum up my thoughts in one post so people know what the 'official' berlin stance on this game is

1) Don't blame stockholm for taking advantage of the sheer stupidity of this seasons sim

2) I blame the state of the sim for the loss, not just the power back BS, but the awful pass pressure definition and QB AI currently in the game

Having said that,

the fact that a power back can run up the middle 44 times and break 5 tackles on his 45th carry with seemingly no dropoff in energy or effectiveness is beyond dumb. But again, that's the sim.

I do take issue with people telling us to fix our builds though. That's the most played out argument in GLB. No build stops the strong I slam consistently. No build prevents you from losing energy after getting run on by a power back 44 times while the RB seemingly doesn't lose any. Are my DE's builds the reason they're worthless now? No, it's because people whined all day for seasons and forced Bort to change the sim, even though the well built OTs were shutting down Magnus way back in season 4 (just ask the London Hitmen).

And I think skill position players in this game who spend 900 flex a season to boost should actually see their player do something, yes. I'm not sure what message it sends to your skill position players when you pass 7 times and their guys are just wandering around the field aimlessly for the rest of the game, but it certainly doesn't strike me as saying "keep spending flex on this game! You're a valuable member of the team!"
