Pipeline 'Nites Win First Pacific Cup

A sea of orange and aqua washed over The Pipeline stadium as over 73,000 fans of the Oceania Pro League Champion Banzai Pipleline 'Nites filled the seats, settling in to enjoy another top notch game against the Southeast Asia Pro League representatives Bangkok Seamen. And true to form for games so far in the Inaugural GLB World Cup, the teams did not disappoint. And in the end, the 'Nites rode their All-Pro play of their defense to capture the first Pacific Cup in GLB World Cup play by a score of 20-10 over the Seamen.

While the 'Nites relied on their stalwart rushing game, QB King Stones was being harassed by the Seamen defense all game long, sacked and hurried 4 times each. "Those Seamen are tough swimmers" said Stones. "But our defense did an excellent job shutting down their rushing game, while we were able to control the game and clock with ours." 'Nites owner lukin83 concurred. "That 35 yard TD off an INT from CB Shade Malone really sealed the deal, and helped set us up to ride out the game" said lukin83. Add to that another drive stopper sack from LB Willie Makeit and the 'Nites were set for victory.

QB Jim Zorn took over the offense once the rushing game faltered, hitting almost 68% of his passes, finding WR Jerryd A-Bay-Bay for 98 yards, but the lack of a rushing attack and 3 dropped passes, stalled drive after drive. HB Ricky Watters broke 7 tackles and finally scored the lone TD for the Bangkok Seamen in the early 4th quarter. "We held our own against a great Oceania Pro League champion" said Seamen owner Ben Dover. "It was really a great experience for both teams, and we look forward to doing this again soon." True to that statement, the Seamen sit just one game out of first at mid-season and look good to return as champions next season.

Santiago Benitos Come From Behind To Capture Equatorial Cup

The Santiago Benitos, arguably the team to beat in the Inaugural GLB World Cup, ran into a buzz-saw called the USAORG Legionnaires, in front of over 73,000 rabid Benitos fans. But the Benitos showed their experience and endurance, clawing back to a tie the game :38 seconds left in regulation and scored the game winning TD in overtime, to defeat the USAORG Legionnaires 26-19 and claim the first Equatorial Cup in GLB World Cup play.

But before they could hoist that trophy, the Benitos had to endure the African Pro League version of smash mouth football. Led by HB's Jedi Knight and Chief Brighthorse, the Legionnaires amassed over 200 yards on the ground, and controlled the tempo for 59 minutes. "We really felt we were in position to win this" said Legionnaires owner Hokiemon. "But they showed us why they are the team to beat in this great Inaugural GLB World Cup." And Legionnaires K athletes foot showed why he is All-Pro material, nailing all four FG's and pinning the Benitos deep all game.

The Santiago Benitos offense responded with the single greatest performance by a QB in the GLB World Cup first round. Ben Randall threw for 306 yards, completing 71% of his passes for 3 TD's and only 1 INT, behind his massive offensive line and their 5 flapjacks. "Combine the O-line play and the through the roof performance by WR Norm DeSpain, and our formula for success continues" said Randall. When Randall said "through the roof" about WR Norm DeSpain, he was referring to his 137 yard receiving performance, on 4 catches for an average of 34 yards per catch. "Look at my YAC and tell me that wasn't just awesome" said DeSpain. "But the 70 yard game winning TD catch in GLB World Cup play? That was flat out awesome."

With the first round of games completed, the GLB World Cup has been widely praised and so far has delivered the caliber of play that represents all eight teams that won their leagues or had the moxie to show up and play. The schedule for the second round games will be provided as soon as it is set.

Guys, I hate to do this late into the thread, but I'm going to move this to "Friendlies" to be consistant with regards to the rules dealing with these kinds of threads.

Moving this thread was completely uncalled for. Use common sense sometimes, it works wonders.

Santiago was told to schedule the 'Nites. I have challenged them for Day 23 as our next mutually free off day.

I was going to say something sarcastic (out of character I know), but I've got to give you credit for acknowledging that it took over 2 days and 6 pages in the main forum to decide this needed to be moved for "consistency." That required a certain amount of ironic humor on your part.

Go Benitos!

And that game must've been shceduled by them outside of this tournament, because it's scheduled for tomorrow, no way they could've gotten it scheduled after today's win for tomorrow.

I'm very surprised that DDL isn't in here complaining that they didn't get invited.

DDL can EASILY make the case that they were the #2 team in USA Pro least year.

16-0 and only loss to the champs is a pretty good argument imo.

Look at it this way, if both those teams win in the semis, the final is already done.

If they both lose, the bronze medal will be decided
