Go find a dozen random people with open builds, who aren't posting in the forums, and send some critiques about their builds. I can guarantee you at least half of them respond with "go fuck yourself" to varying degrees of politeness.

not really. just people on teams i end up joining. even guys that have been playing for as long as i have use 2 way multi train at the start of their building process and never enhance anything. i usually just send PMs with some suggestions and try not to offend them. I'm all for people thinking outside the box but 2 way multi training for your first season is just silly.

they could be seeking help from others for all i know but ive learned more in the last year about building than i did for the first 4 years of playings since people just started telling me why my builds were looking so horrible. So I like to do the same. I've never had anyone respond with anything but some gratitude and/or questions.

And a good chunk of people don't want unsolicited help. If I've learned anything from MMOs, it's that people quickly get infuriated when you mention that they aren't doing something right, even if they clearly aren't.

The people who want to learn welcome information. The people who don't want to learn resent it. The latter are irrelevant, which is why I've (and you've) never cared about those who insist I'm (and you're) a horrible person. But believe it or not, there are plenty of agents still out there who are interested in learning but never make the connections to do so. Obviously the idea would have worked better back when new people were still joining the game since they're the most likely to want advice, which is why I proposed the idea about two years ago.

There's a relatively well known case study/article called 'teaching smart people how to learn' that basically talks about this (obviously not from an mmo perspective).

We tend to have certain defense mechanisms that limit us.

ETA: I've linked it here before, but: http://velinleadership.com/downloads/chris_argyris_learning.pdf

ARE YOU INSINUATING THAT I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO LEARN!

Go find a dozen random people with closed builds who are posting in the forums and send them some requests for explanations of their builds. I can guarantee you at least half of them respond (or don't respond at all) the same way.

Unsolicited advice offends many people's ego.

A very good point and reason Bort should implement some sort of "gold star" thingy for solid teams. Then make it obvious to new players that the gold star teams are the best option for learning, or some such thing.

I prefer to make snide remarks in the comments section of their player ads, thank you.

Bort already took one of my ideas and gave me nothing for it (peewee was my suggestion). But I have another one that will help make him money.

CPU leagues.

Let people who want to compete PvP style own teams of CPU players and play only other CPU teams. Possibly allow coordinators but not more than 3-4 people on a team.

This allows people who enjoy owning/coordinating to challenge each other but doesn't require multiple seasons of development and constantly fighting the FA battle.

Also, Bort, compensate me with some flex for giving you Peewee.

That's great and all, but Tom Brady is not Calvin Johnson so that comparison is moot. The point being is the game doesn't play like the real game of football. 99% of that has to do with the way players are able to be built, everyone building pretty much the same way, etc. It makes it repetitive and boring.

And this response is the other thing that plagues this game and why it will struggle to grow. Any time you have someone post a differing opinion, you get douche responses like this. For those new members that sign up and build their first player only to get assaulted in the forums, told to retire, etc... they log off and likely don't come back.

I own multiple college football and sports forums. I've invited hundreds of people to this game and very few of them are still here today because of this sort of thing as well as the monotonous replay value.
