So we have a Catch-22 ... we can't add roster spots without compromising the entire idea and we can't remove them because of how the game is coded. So we're stuck at 20 players, min and max. And this creates potentially huge problems with the player pool, with teams' abilities to sign and release players and with free agents who are built to be Iron Man players but have nowhere to play because teams have no wiggle room roster-wise.

Unless there is some solution that allows teams to play with fewer than 20 players, I think this idea is, unfortunately, dead in the water. If there was only some way to make a couple of those roster spots (ideally 5) non-active spots, then we'd have a perfect solution. But from what I'm hearing, even though it hasn't been addressed directly, that's not possible.

We could make the roster minimum not apply, and the game would just sign CPUs up to 20 (and then cut them) when the sim ran. Problem is that if you don't have at least 20 players it will also auto reorder your DC.

That would definitely be a problem for team full of players who will, by definition, be playing out of position half the time.

Just saw this thread for the first time.
This is interesting because one day when I was really bored I actually brainstormed how I would make an ironman team, and 15 players was the number I felt were needed as well. Would be p fun imo.

this would be really awesome, i just dont think regular players should be allowed. i think you choose iron man or regular from the beginning of creation til he retires, every player in the game gets like one free player to get things kicking, then you can use flex points to make more. we could also add in different equipment, having leather helmets and such to make it feel more realistic like it was back in the old times
we should definately get this put together and have it ready by season 13. i could see this actually being more popular than the way it is played now. way more production and enjoyment from seeing our little offspring grow and do more on the football field
i have only spent $10 on the game so far, but i could easily see spending way more if i was doing that, actually seeing more than paying money for my player to get 40-50 plays a game if lucky. my defense is too good for the ball to ever get to fs during a regular game lol. it would be nice to be able to jump over and play qb or wr in games like that.

The removal of the roster minimum solves the issue of not being able to trade or drop inactives.

Is there any way to force a minimum of 5 CPU players per team?(Obviously it would only be needed in the Iron Man Leagues so might be a hassle overall) That should solve the issue of fulfilling the sim's minimum at game time and prevent reordering the DC of an ideal 15 human player team.

+1as someone who +1 this idea a long time ago i am really glad it is being considered and would love to make a lb/ol/qb lol

A nice side effect of this will be that the success rate of finding AEQ that is actually useful will approximately double for Iron Man players.

Do you mean that if you don't have 20 human players it will re order when it adds the CPU's in order to meet the 20 player requirement for the sim to run?

Hopefully there is sometime of fix to this. Obviously only Bort knows the real requirements of the sim. Hopefully this can be worked around in order to make this league possible.

Bort, I think I can speak for all of us when I say we are willing to brainstorm and work around the problem with you, we just have more limited information to go on and we're doin what we can, because we obviously want to see this happen.

Yes, that's exactly what it would do. It would add the extra CPU's to get to 20 players and then do an auto reorder. The auto reorder is required to make sure teams who don't have a depth chart set actually play a proper game.

I'd have to think a bit about other ideas if we are to fix that. I seem to recall that the reason I did 20 players is because there ended up being certain situations where you could still end up with a roster that didn't work when you had less. I do not recall why or when, but I do recall problems coming up when the minimum was 11.

True, I find plenty of +% Pass Deflect/+% Catch or +% Break Tackle/+% Hold Tackle.

As far as I know, we don't know at this point, I think it's at kind of a stand still until someone or bort comes up with a way to make it so the roster sizes will work with the sim and the depth chart

Just have 15 active players, and assign 5 CPU 'water boys' that aren't allowed to play.

^Exactly. Heck since an automatic reorder would have CPUs playing, and thus extremely crafty teams might use that to their advantage, they could even be active to all teams. They just have to be horrible so that nobody would want to play them

reposting as I had the suggestion a week ago: (Even though it's on this same page)
