Because GLB is so disorganized (even the wiki is down), agents don't always know where to learn, especially if they are too intimidated to post. A lot of those guys are in the D-leagues.

And having a WL owner setting the AI and depth chart is going to help that?

The Wiki also isn't down. Just the Q&A resource.

And a good chunk of people don't want unsolicited help.

If I've learned anything from MMOs, it's that people quickly get infuriated when you mention that they aren't doing something right, even if they clearly aren't.

i wouldnt go that far. at least not with GLB. i dont play any other MMOs so i can only use GLB as reference but 99% of the people i help or say something to are usual grateful. I dont think ive ever seen anyone get infuriated when you tell them theyre doing something wrong.

unless you like to say "youre fucking wrong" and then dont tell them why..

if you tell them theyre wrong, why theyre wrong and how to fix whatever it is that theyre doing wrong, theyre generally thankful.

There's a relatively well known case study/article called 'teaching smart people how to learn' that basically talks about this (obviously not from an mmo perspective).

We tend to have certain defense mechanisms that limit us.

ETA: I've linked it here before, but: http://velinleadership.com/downloads/chris_argyris_learning.pdf

Pretty often, at least more often than it should happen, I see this scenario in an MMO

Me: "Um, you need a shield if you're tanking"
Tank: "stfu i know how to play my character"
*Tank runs into group*
*Tank dies in 2 hits before healer can even get off his 2 second heal*
Tank: "wtf noob healer didnt heal me"

Hell, you can see examples of that in this thread.

People blaming their lack of success on stupid shit like "only speed matters".

Yeah. Humans have this, "I know what I'm doing" even when they don't... which explains some of the posts on "The Darwin Awards".

im going to assume a tank is someone that takes damage. people will always be arrogant and think their way is right unless you can show them why they are wrong.

i also dont deal with the smarter guys in the game. i dont try to disprove anyone that thoroughly understands GLB. I just help newer guys who have some wack training routines or help with basic build advice. Smarter people tend to think theyre too good to be taught something by someone else and some people are too stupid to understand how they could possibly be wrong. Maybe im just lucky and over 5 years ive just played with people who want to learn and are willing to debate what works and what doesnt. Especially with the VPB, its easy to show what is more effective and what isnt. At least training/SP wise.

I'm guessing you are interacting mostly with people seeking help.

We are talking about the people who aren't seeking help.
