No, it is hard coded that each team needs at least 20 players for the game to take place. Each side, meaning team.

So I take it it wouldn't be possible to change this number?

We're working on work-around atm, but idk

This may be reaching a little bit.

Is there a way to add additional spots to the Depth Chart titled Bench Players? Preferably 5 of them. Maybe the team could carry 20 players, however during each game, 5 of them would be designated to ride the bench while the other 15 players played?

Kind of a bizarre idea, but just a thought.

How about automatically having 5 L1 CPU players on each team. If you use them, you're hurting the team as they'll suck, but they also take up 5 spots getting the number of human players down to 15 (the number people want).

20 would be fine, as well, IMO. You still have the original idea, yes you have a few more spots but if you have to do it at 20 I don't think it's a deal breaker.

I think 20 min 20 max would be fine, with cpu players adding to a team if they were to drop down to 19. I can see potential problems with the player pool happening though.

There is still a proble with a 20 min/max. Once the roster is set at 20, you can't adjust it. You can't cut players because you'll go below 20, and you can't sign players because you can't go above 20. The only solution is for a player's contract to expire.

This kind of raises an interesting point. Size of the roster being 20 is fine, and really kind of makes sense especially if we're looking at a 15 man "team". Rather than looking at limiting the roster itself below 20, maybe it would be easier to set it up so that only 15 of the people are actually able to pick up plays in any given game? Frankly I wouldn't care if people had 50 people on their roster if there was a way to make it so no more than 15 players are actually able to have plays in the game...

But, if I'm understanding Bort correctly, this is exactly the problem. The min of 20 isn't just for the roster size. The game itself can't sim without 20 active players. So we have a Catch-22 ... we can't add roster spots without compromising the entire idea and we can't remove them because of how the game is coded. So we're stuck at 20 players, min and max. And this creates potentially huge problems with the player pool, with teams' abilities to sign and release players and with free agents who are built to be Iron Man players but have nowhere to play because teams have no wiggle room roster-wise.

Unless there is some solution that allows teams to play with fewer than 20 players, I think this idea is, unfortunately, dead in the water. If there was only some way to make a couple of those roster spots (ideally 5) non-active spots, then we'd have a perfect solution. But from what I'm hearing, even though it hasn't been addressed directly, that's not possible.

I would buy a team even with a 20 player max...

So do we have a definite answer for this idea?

Is there a way to allow cut players and signees for a team even if it were to cause the team to go above or below the 20 player min/max? Then the roster would be reset to 20 players before each game, whether it be by automatically cutting players (lowest leveled) when the roster is above 20, and signing cpu players when the roster is below 20? Is this possible?

I'm still not certain we do have definitive answers, and definitely not the specifics you're asking for. It's a tricky issue and I wish we could get one more Bort clarification about it. Hopefully he hasn't answered because he's working to see if he can figure out a work-around like DL24 stated at the top of this page.
