The "Returner" archetype is restricted to HB, WR, and CB.

Think of the archetypes as being the focus of the build, not the entire build.

loldrake. He's right, though. You can be a returner w/o the Returner archetype.

The archetypes allow us to make better players with a more specific goal in mind. But it does not stop you from creating diversity. And, like others, I think it helps. You have these more intelligent ALGs now so that you can focus on something less conventional and still create a successful player.

Well, damnit hazy, you've made me reconsider purchasing flex. I'm very tempted to make a run blocking and pass blocking OT pair that will rise to fame after my current ROT is finished.

but lets be honest if an owner has to choose from a FB that made to be a returner with the right build and the right AEQ and a archetype player theres no way the FB is getting picked

I think Guppy is asking why FB's can't have the returner archetype.

I tell you what, if you can name 5 fullbacks that have returned kicks on a consistent basis in the the NFL in the last 20 years, I'll let them choose the archetype.

Sorry jdros... this was a horrible justification. Why even bother with the archetype then?

why not?

His solution was that you dont need them. Why have them if there is no need for them? Still going to use backup O-linemen on ST's because they only cost 100 FP.

Bort just wants to pray on the user base that cant figure out they are wasting money on a STOP archetype (provided jdros is correct in justification).

FB's make good KR/PR's on GLB. Just because they don't have the returner archetype, doesn't mean they will all of the sudden suck at it.

This. My DE, now retired, was a part time KR/PR back in the day.

You're still adding the SPs. You have certain ALGs and SAs that you have bonuses to, but you still choose how to build the player. Just because you're building a blocking TE doesn't mean you can't throw some catching in there at some point to really throw off the opposing defenses. And your strength based DE can add some speed to get a sack every once in awhile.

The archetypes allow us to make better players with a more specific goal in mind. But it does not stop you from creating diversity. And, like others, I think it helps. Thank you! This helps. I can see what this means, but I don't understand why we don't just let people select their own majors/minors/SAs.

I agree I believe we had a conversation about that not too long ago, but do you think owners will pick the player that isnt specifically made for returning?

honestly....I don't know why you would pick it at the moment tbh.

If you were building your own team from scratch where you owned all the players I could definitely see making a backup at each position to be mostly STs and a limited role as a backup for a couple of regular plays. No way I would personally build a special teams unit to jump from team to team throughout my career though, especially when many positions built to perform at their position work just fine on special teams.

late edit: and there is no reason you couldn't still use OLinemen as special teamers if you chose to.

I couldnt agree more... hence the reason why I said bort was doing it for money

edit for bold
