I like Jim McMahon and even read his book and enjoyed it, but he isn't even close to the top 50 QB's of all time. If you made a list of the 5 worst QB's to win a superbowl, he would be real close to the top of the list.

It is kind of sad that Jim McMahon has 2 Super Bowl rings.

I just peeked at his stats and he had 4 pass attempts as Favre's back-up in 1996. maybe the waterboy got a ring too.

Two words. Trent. Dilfer.

Dilfer was a great college QB who never lived up to pro expectations, but still turned out to be very comparable to Mcmahon. I'd rate them very close on an all-time list of QB's.

I do put them both on that top 5 list of worst QB's to win a superbowl along with Mark Rypien, Doug Williams, and I still haven't figured out who else I would put on that list.
1) Doug Williams
2) Mark Rypien
3) Jim McMahon
4) Trent Dilfer
5) Jeff Hostetler? Brad Johnson? Eli Manning?

Below is a list of the starting QB from the winning team from every superbowl.

Bart Starr, Green Bay Packers - SB I
Bart Starr, Green Bay Packers - SB II
Joe Namath, New York Jets - SBIII
Len Dawson, Kansas City Chiefs - SB IV
Johnny Unitas, Baltimore Colts - SB V
Roger Staubach, Dallas Cowboys - SB VI
Bob Griese, Miami Dolphins - SB VII
Bob Griese, Miami Dolphins - SB VIII
Terry Bradshaw, Pittsburgh Steelers - SB IX
Terry Bradshaw, Pittsburgh Steelers - SB X
Ken Stabler, Oakland Raiders - SB XI
Roger Staubach, Dallas Cowboys - SB XII
Terry Bradshaw, Pittsburgh Steelers - SB XIII
Terry Bradshaw, Pittsburgh Steelers - SB XIV
Jim Plunkett, Oakland Raiders - SB XV
Joe Montana, San Francisco 49ers - SB XVI
Joe Theismann, Washington Redskins - SB XVII
Jim Plunkett, Los Angeles Raiders - SB XVIII
Joe Montana, San Francisco 49ers - SB XIX
Jim McMahon, Chicago Bears - SB XX
Phil Simms, New York Giants - SB XXI
Doug Williams, Washington Redskins - SB XXII
Joe Montana, San Francisco 49ers - SB XXIII
Joe Montana, San Francisco 49ers - SB XXIV
Jeff Hostetler, New York Giants - SB XXV
Mark Rypien, Washington Redskins - SB XXVI
Troy Aikman, Dallas Cowboys - SB XXVII
Troy Aikman, Dallas Cowboys - SB XXVIII
Steve Young, San Francisco 49ers - SB XXIX
Troy Aikman, Dallas Cowboys - SB XXX
Brett Favre, Green Bay Packers - SB XXXI
John Elway, Denver Broncos - SB XXXII
John Elway, Denver Broncos - SB XXXIII
Kurt Warner, St. Louis Rams - SB XXXIV
Trent Dilfer, Baltimore Ravens - SB XXXV
Tom Brady, New England Patriots - SB XXXVI
Brad Johnson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - SB XXXVII
Tom Brady, New England Patriots - SB XXXVIII
Tom Brady, New England Patriots - SB XXXIX
Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers - SB XL
Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts - SB XLI
Eli Manning, New York Giants - SB XLII

I think Doug Williams is a tough sell for #1 considering he kicked ass in the Super Bowl and his career numbers are pretty close to McMahon's.

Roethlisberger might deserve consideration though.

I'd throw Kurt Warner into the mix just because he hasn't done much since the '99 year. He shouldn't have even started that year to begin with; he was the beneficiary of a Trent Green injury. He walked into the right team at the right time.

Doug Williams > Kurt Warner no doubt.

Maybe there just isn't a Top 5 worst. I'm sure none of those guys give a rat's behind.

I was talking about worst career QB's to win a superbowl. Doug Williams had the game of his life in the superbowl, but had a career completion percentage less than 50%. Even comparing Kurt Warner to Doug Williams shows a complete lack of understanding of the game. At one point in time Warner had the highest career QB rating in the history of the NFL. 151 TD's to 100 INTs, 65% completion percentage, and numerous season top 10 rankings. Until he got hurt in 2002, many were predicting a HoF career by him. Warner did get the limelight when Trent Green was injured just like Tom Brady got his shot when Bledsoe was injured. It's an oft repeated story in professional sports.

Here is a nice website for you: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WarnKu00.htm
I personally use it to check stats before assuming my opinion is accurate fact.

Roethlisberger, who has been in the top 5 in QB rating every year of his career except one? Yeah, that guy is awful.

well, maybe the parameters of this argument need to be defined. roethlisberger had a horrrrrrible super bowl. but he's become an excellent qb. so is the question worst super bowl qb performance, or worst overall career of a qb in the sb?

The parameters would need to be defined.

Recall, this thread got off topic by a statement that Favre wasn't top ten. There was a joke made about McMahon not being on the top ten list. And the discussion has now become top 5 worst SB QB's.

I think we should get back on topic and all agree that Cobra Kai is the greatest team at GLB!

Cobra Kai's new motto should be

"Dry Hump the Leg!"

Definitely go with the LB list.

You may only get 5-6 RBs.
