I was waiting until Day 1, but here's how many 0-day-old dots there were at various times this off-season, including today.

S39 D46: 5,777
S39 D48: 7,214
S40 D -6: 7,814
S40 D -1: 8,467

So, it's looking more and more like the size of the Rookie Class of S40 will top out no higher than 9,000 on Day 1 and probably not even that. For comparison's sake on Day 33 last season the size of the Rookie Class of S39 was 11,310... though to be fair, that total would include dots that were created mid-season. I just did a check of dots that were created mid-season in S39 (dots aged 1 to 39 days old), and found 1,534 of them still alive, quite a bit more than I was expecting, though history shows that mid-season dots are much more likely than off-season dots to get retired early, long before reaching Lv79.

Still, I'm thinking more and more that it's not fair to compare S39 Day 33 to Season 40 Day 1. While my ego wants to point to these numbers and shout, "There, see? I was right! GLB is dying!", it's looking more and more like it's probably best to just compare same-day totals season to season to get the fairest and most accurate picture.

Even waiting until the same day we will not be close to last season. Sad.

Depends. Keep in mind there were probably more than 1,534 mid-season dots created in Season 39... a good chunk of them probably just got retired during this offseason. So, depending on how many mid-season dots get created in Season 40, we could easily surpass Season 39's total by Day 33.

Just because I believe the game is dying doesn't mean I get to ignore the available data. If the numbers on Day 33 don't match my belief, that means I need to reconsider my belief.

your also assuming that a linear pattern was followed in the past. I would wager that seasonal influences have an effect on the number of new players created. Meaning next season might provide a boost in creation figures which wouldn't necessarily indicate an increase in game demand for the reasons we all hope.

You should track everyone below regional pro and see how those numbers are represented from season to season as many dots play only a few seasons and then start over again. This is evident when comparing some of the mid level leagues and how sparse they are.

I would imagine that the current winter conditions throughout most of North America seem to provide more indication that if people wanted something to pass the time indoors they would be more inclined to create new dots vs 3-4 months down the road.

Don't worry, I'm tracking those numbers too... just haven't had a good reason to post 'em yet.

Keep in mind, I only started watching these totals on Day 33 of last season. Just gonna have to wait until Day 33 of this season before we can really get any meaningful season-to-season comparisons.

By the way, for what it's worth, earlier this morning there were 8,693 dots aged between 0 and 1 days old, also known as the Rookie Class of S40.

To catch up to the Rookie Class of S39, there will have to be an additional 2,617 dots created mid-season before Day 33 of Season 40.

If they keep ignorin' support tickets and ignoring the common bugs hampering this game...the Season 41 Rookie Class will be half of this seasons totals...then again probably working as intended...force people to leave then say well thats it folks...not enough interest in GLB Classic to keep the servers going any longer and poof just GLB2 if you wanta play....which I won't be
