Show me a sports sim that is not a game of math

I think he's referring to the focus of the userbase.

GLB's biggest challenge is never the attributes. It's the relative barrier to entry with player building. Attracting new users is easy with cross-promotion from traffic generated by the new game (whatever it may be) and a referral system with proper incentives. Keeping them is the issue.

The fact of the matter is that GLB is relatively complex. It's GLB's biggest strength and weakness. A new user to the game has to understand player building strategies from the getgo instead of learning 1 or 2 dots in. That means you've got about 1 in 1000 doing it right. The 999 doing it wrong have to stick around through the agonizing seasons of struggling to find a team, dealing with crappy teams when they do find a home, and then talks of retiring their dots they put months into.

And it's not the Wiki's fault. It's just the structure of things. You've got this networked group of individuals 'maintaining' the game who also act as a barrier to entry for new users. The only way around it is recognizing the network/friends aspect of the game and somehow incentivizing pulling in new users. Essentially you have to pit networks up against each other with incentives for drawing in new users.

I agree with all of that. It was easier when we started because there were plenty of people, and nearly all of us sucked at it. Not sure getting the networks involved is the answer, but they need to try something different, for sure.

I think most people involved with networks or large circles of friends are like me. They are pretty inviting to new users and go out of their way to help them out.

Most of the people who play this game aren't good at building players. That's only a problem if those people want to play at the highest levels. Frankly the only thing I'm concerned about is making sure that everyone who wants to play GLB finds a reasonable team on which to do so. When I go through the marketplace and see ads saying "just want to play," it makes me want to buy a team in their age range. I've long begged for a series of teams run by experienced agents whose only purpose is to sign and develop either new people or those who have never gotten the hang of things.

I've tried that several times. You will be lucky to get one person that gives a shit. Once they've signed with a team they don't care.

I'm fine with that. I simply want them to have the opportunity they're asking for even if they have no interest in "getting better."

This. As well as coordinating.

Coordinating isn't hard. It's caring enough to coordinate that's difficult.

It is a hell of a barrier to break. I have been trying to break back into DC'ing for like 11 seasons now and every time I start getting into it I give up cuz the first step is daunting.

I suck terribly at building players, and I know this. I don't care if I have a dot in WL one day, I just want my players to play on teams that I enjoy being on. EPF's teams, Dub's, whatever. Building players is just a little added fun.

Yeah, and admins/moderators/volunteers should really be running development teams at every level instead of just sticking people on CPU teams. Letting them watch the replays is better than nothing, but it wouldn't take that much effort to create an atmosphere where someone might get more enjoyment out of this site and therefore stick around.

Sounds like cares I don't even have for my own teams.

What does that have to do with anything? If 10,000 people on GLB joins the new game you are telling me another 10,000 will join the new game? And all those new people will join GLB?

Lol
