Boredom of the complaints, yeah.

Boredom in general. When you see someone riled up, you enjoy poking them to see how they will react, just as you did earlier with the low blow to me.

Especially since it's always some kind of persecution complex, as if the admins just really want to get rid of you but need to play games and jump through hoops to do it.

They do, and they do. Monetary investment in this game means that they can't arbitrarily remove malcontents, they have to fashion a justification and then push them towards it. Note that I'm not absolving guys like Malachorn since it's their own damn fault for falling into the trap, but surely you realize there is intent there from up top. I know it's been discussed.

If admins wanted you off the forums they could just ban you from the forums. There is no monetary investment in forum posting.

With all the easy access to porn on the internet I don't understand all the butthurt about not getting to display sexually themed avis. If you want to see a nude chick doing lewd things just open another tab and fap away.

Dub J, at least at one point, was one of the big proponents of a stricter forum atmosphere.

That's before he made up his current Boltz-like persona.

The wild west atmosphere in these forums is what drove me off the deep end. I used to be a nice guy.

Makes about as much sense as a guy leaving because he can't use tits as his avatar.

the people objecting can express virtually no articulable inconvenience it is causing them to endure.

it's ultimately not a significant issue, because enforcing stricter rules regarding appropriate content in this regard does NOT inhibit the userbase's enjoyment of the game in any substantial way.

this rule doesn't actually inhibit your ability to enjoy the game in any meaningful way. Ergo, it shouldn't be that big a deal.

Seriously, go argue with someone more on your level. If Avenger is still around, tell him that special teams isn't important.

Second point, ad hominems generally only serve to make the person using them look foolish.

Ad hominems add entertainment value, which can be important given that there is none to be had from people watching you try and fail to make an actual argument or present a justification for why you constantly suck up to the admins.

That argument would never hold up given that the forums are interrelated with the game itself. If the forums only consisted of TT, GD, FFA, etc then you'd be correct.

Aside from the "forums are the game" people, not really.

You still have access to team forums, PMs, and the marketplace. Considering the vast, vast majority of people that played this game never posted on the forums, that argument is even harder to take serious.

OK, first off, there's a difference between a mild annoyance, in the sense that you might prefer the rule was a different way, and something that substantially impedes your enjoyment of the game, which this most definitely is NOT.

Second, you didn't address any of the other points I made, just cherry picked one phrase and twisted its meaning.

Finally...

They only add entertainment value to the person using them. Everyone else generally just ends up wondering why that person is just resorting to insulting another's intelligence instead of, y'know, adding anything meaningful to the discussion.

Pointing to people not utilizing the forums is like pointing to people who don't build properly. Not being able to post in FAQ, GLB main, PLFT, game-related private forums, etc would certainly affect one's ability to play the game. Regardless, we're getting off track.

Banning racy, non-nude avatars:
Downside: annoying existing customers
Upside: ???

jd is never wrong. You should nod in agreement with him. If you always agree with jd you will never be wrong.

So to recap, thread is started to complain about over moderation or the nannification of the forums. Boob Prohibition! Then we learn that Pallow thought Moderation was a "Trainwreck" in the past, which turn out to be "paraphrasing" his words. What he really meant was Moderators were inconsistent, so he is working to fix that. Then some of those fixes are implemented and some things that used to slide, no longer slide. Bitching reboots.

That about right?

Like I said, upside is satisfying other existing customers, of which there are many who would prefer there to be less racy pictures in user and team avatars. Certainly many more than you would probably think.
