I remember before the WL and before the need for expansion of leagues (anyone else remember when you would have say Canada AA,AAA etc
Anyway, before anyone who has an interest in this game not losing face by admitting the need for contraction...I don't think this suggestion would have to mean that the leagues stay condensed forever. For right now though, it does seem that whatever it is that makes leagues great (dots, teams, coordinators) is spread too thin to support all of the pro leagues. Maybe by making the experience at the top (and with subsequent contractions making each level below also more complete and enjoyable. Maybe condensing leagues will make the experience more enjoyable for existing (and new) users which will lead to more participation and then a need for more teams/leagues. This kind of cycle is natural in anything and it would be wise for GLB to adjust with these cycles rather than fight them.

I'd go for this simply because it would do 2 things that I feel are badly needed:
1) Condensing the pro leagues would allow for the mediocre / gut job teams to be removed, and make the league more competitive as a whole
2) Lowering the number of teams that make World League every year would mean that WL teams stay a bit more stable. Those teams that are 9th seeds don't get screwed as bad etc. but the teams that are one and done still get booted out if they are outgunned
