I think everyone should take MVThunder's advice, Cack. Everyone should pass up his posting.

Back on topic, the karma feature was taken off another site I frequent because the admins said that adding the karma feature actually reduced the forum traffic. Makes sense when you think about it. When someone disagrees with something they can just hit a little button rather than join the conversation.

It's really a shock, to think that giving users on this site the ability to negatively affect others by voting might not work as intended. At least they only rolled it out in a couple forums to find this out.
+1 to only allowing 1 vote per IP, though even that won't work. Some people are really obsessed with causing problems. They'll likely just do other things to change their IP address. There might be other additional solutions to preventing abuse of the voting but it has to be done in a way that won't cause other issues.

Whats incredible is that Darkus Black, as big a scumbag (certainly a malevolent personality today) as there has ever been on this site, was given such power early on. Screening moderators has to be better, I would assume, though the way they act, its hard to see evidence for it.

Given the poster to mod ratio I really don't understand the rationale behind karma anyway. It's like having 30 cops in a town with a population of 100 and calling in the national guard for crowd control at a JV basketball game.
