If there is an 8 team tie, and a team beats 6 or 7 of those teams, is there any possible way they would demote/

It think is actually record against those teams you are tied with, and then if you are still tied it goes to points against.

We're likely to find out this season though.

Head to head record among the tied teams is the tiebreaker, so the 8 teams are first ranked in order of their intra-tie record. a 6-2 or 7-1 intra-tie record would guarantee a high spot. Points Allowed is the next tiebreaker after that, so if two teams are 6-2 intra-tie then it's used to determine which one gets the higher seed.
