Go to Rhodes. Medieval walled city. It's fantastic and has an awesome well preserved crusader castle. I can tell you the place to stay too; it's built into the wall of old town. Not my picts of the place, because we had our regular camera when we went, but some decent shots: http://www.thegreektravel.com/rhodes/photos.html

We walked the entirety of the town wall by ourselves; found a place that was unlocked that we could get up.

We're gonna do Scotland eventually; one of the trips on our list. So is Budapest, as well as Romania and Poland (Krakow and such).

Weirdest place I've been was Budapest. I was drinking at a cafe, went inside to take a leak and the proprietor tried to convince me to book some whores w/ him. I was like, man all I want is a piss but that's good to know. I told my dad about it and he asked the dude who the chick was that was working there. He said it was his niece. So my dad told him he'd pay for her and would like to watch me do her (just fucking w/ the guy). He hesitated and then said he could hook it up! I should have found that place when I was young and single.

The place we stayed at near Brno in the Czech Republic was this old dacha. They stuck us in an area that had pictures of naked women on horses drawn on the wall and was referred to as the "Eliott Club". We discovered that we'd gotten put in the brothel portion of the B&B.

Rhodes is awesome, and if you take the time to travel around he island there are some pretty awesome sights. They have castles and fortresses spread through out the island, built by the Templars, Knights of Saint John (translation, dont know if its right)
anyhow I would definately recommend it if you history.

Also Rome could be recommended, just beware of pick pockets and such otherwise some AWESOME buildings and such... also there is the Vatica State there as well. Beautiful sights, but dont buy too much into the religious stuff.
I kinda lost some respect for the catholic religion there seeing as people could pop money into a machine and a light buld would turn on... thereby granting them absolution of their sins. kinda like commercialized religion

Rhodes is one of those places I could retire to if I wasn't already planning on Campeche.

Granted, unless I win the lottery, retirement is still a *long* way off.

Real Heroes litter the countryside of France. From all ages of time.

The first was in the outskirts of Vienna where we visited the Austrian war museum and there in one of the wings was the car that Franz Ferdinand traveled in, complete w/ a few bullet holes.

Oddly enough, I've been to that museum

Where did you go in Scotland? I spent a week in Edinburgh and found it to be one of the more fascinating places I had been. You talked about the hair standing on the back of your neck in France. I found that to be the case in Edinburgh.

I loved Budapest. I took 3 years off from work and traveled off and on throughout, and Budapest, Edinburgh, South Island, NZ, and Istanbul where by far my favorite spots.

I found that traveling around the world, to a myriad of different places, gave me a much better perspective on how we live in the US. Opened my eyes to a lot of things that we both do well, and do horribly. And definitely made me realize just how young of a country we are, comparatively speaking.

Good stuff Otega. Agree with all of that.

Edinburgh was where we went too but it was only 2 nights and one day. Just enough to get a taste and go to Edinburgh Castle really. Had a great time though as we were there on Halloween night and the city was partying down. We pretty much want to visit more of the countryside and see more castles and things.

When me and the wife were on the train from London to Edinburgh, there was a Scot and an American behind us who were students and were traveling together. So I started drinking beer at about 10 AM. The kid from Edinburgh says "now there's a Scotsman".

The American kid says, "how can you tell?"
Scot: "Just look at him ordering beer this early and no ordinary beer, McEwan's Ale, only Scots drink that stuff. And listen to that accent"
American: "he kinda sounds like an American from the country somewhere"
Scot: "no way, he's got a thick accent like they have in Glasgow - they sound different than I do"
American: "I say he's from the woods in VA or N. Carolina"
Scot: "I'll bet you a beer he ain't"
American: Pauses...pauses..."alright, you might be right but let's ask him"

Almost as funny as the time an Australian in a pub in London challenged me to a Guinness drinking contest. I was 25 and he was bragging about him and his mates being able to consume a case of Budweiser each and I told him that was nothing to brag about. After I destroyed him & he puked I told him I was still in college and he should know better who he was challenging.

A case of Bud? I could handle that in 8th grade ffs.

Boomy I'd destroy you in a stout drinking contest btw. Guinness goes down like water for me. You had Guiness on Nitro tap? Makes the stout even smoother!

That contest was 18 years ago. So you might. And nope, ain't ever had that. The Aussie assumed I'd never had a Guinness, being a Yank and all. That was his first mistake. The 2nd was assuming drinking a case of Bud is monumental.

If you ever find a stout on nitro tap. Try it!

Case of Bud at sea level is like drinking water. Come out here and drink in the mountains! You build up a tolerance pretty quickly.

My tolerance is still cool. But my innards and my liver aren't so hot anymore.
