I guess Centers can be mor run oriented since they normally dont take any D linemen by theirself unless the MLB blitzes

The LG here has about 60 strength and blocking and he got manhandled on these 3 straight plays

Although youve gotta consider that the DT is pretty beastly

That DT probably outstrength him by 20, definitely not the type of opponent to just a person's build by

Well, it's the right build to compare against if he's going up against him and getting beat.

That said, that doesn't look to me like only a strength issue. That DT has to have some SAs pumped up pretty high.

Wow, that DT went trough him like butter. I'm wondering if maybe the str wasnt neccesarily alot higher but the DT has a ton of agi and spd and maybe a like amount of str. He just beat him off the line so the str and blocking were never an issue?

not true at all.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=6702984

building my center i have found that he is most effective when the str and blocking are close ( w/in a couple of points). when my strength has been significantly higher than blocking it's almost a waste of strength. also, agility and vision are very important to help pick up blitzers effectively whether inside or outside. plus the morale factor in a pancake can't be undervalued.

Why vision?

well I think you can get heaps of pancakes with high strenght and low blocking, but not high blocking and low strenght... so that should answer the question.

In saying that blocking helps out to get the most out of your strenght I have found.

I have a OT in a team in which their is a friendly competitions going with the other o-line guys for pancakes... I went for strenght to 70 ASAP with about 40 ib blocking... and I completely dominated. The next best always had strenght and blocking close together and was way less effective.

Strenght wins out

OT's yes- Guards and Centers, I disagree. I think strength is dominate for these positions but not for Offensive Tackles.

It helps greatly with blitz pickups and adjusting to assist other lineman. Contrary to what everyone says you don't have to be a high str/block guy to be effective. My guard is setup quite differently and is set to run block all the time yet manages to do quite well when having to stay in to pass block. I've seen him go from the blocking on the right to leaving the block to pick up a left side blitz, he's also picked up numerous safety blitzes.

BTW his str/block is about 50 each but I've invested quite a bit in vision/agility/speed to make the corner on pulling runs and it seems quite effective for pass blocking also.

Get it right Pancakes=Overrated crap!

You don't need them at all to be effective. I'd much rather see a guard who picks up blitzes, blocks on the run and controls the defensive players than see how many pancakes your guy can get.

You don't have to answer, but how much vision/speed/agi do you have? Pancakes are definitely overrated though, it's just an e-peen measuring tool for people who need stats for their O-lineman.
