Wanna make fun of him here... but he's right... The fact that an owner like this, one who enjoyed the game so much in the beginning, and was even willing to pay for a team without really trying to win, just to play the game, but is now leaving... Bort should take notice...
TSE, if you don't mind, what are the biggest issues you have with how the game has "evolved"?
Oh boy, well I could list a gigantic list of things that I don't like about this game and I could write probably a 500 page report or business plan of what I would have done with the game to make ti better and more profitable. To answer your question I would say in a nutshell it's not anything like football or an MMORPG for one, and it's worse in this middle ground. I'd rather see more of a realistic football sim game, or something that is creative and imaginative.
For the football side of things:
I hate the roster limit which is ridiculous. Recruiting is too time consuming and slow and could use a more efficient interface to connect with people. The size of the team and this unwritten forcing of keeping players even on play time is horrible for the game. 55 men is WAY WAY too big to have any team identity and branding. it would be different if you used 20 spots just for CPU backups and STs that fill in. Even the NFL has only a 45 man roster and that's with about 15 guys that get scarce playing time. A football team identity is really about the top 22 and a few more, not 55 guys all fighting it out to share time. It's not a football game, it's like a children's tea party and everybody has to have similar rations.
I hate the SAs and VAs. They are lame and boring and unimaginative. I think they speak for themselves. Well actually some of them speak incorrectly as there's still grammatical and spelling errors in the descriptions, which is just annoying and sends a message that the owner of the game doesn't really give a shit. It doesn't set a good tone that this game is official and professional. It is sloppy in letting it's weaknesses manifest themselves to counteract the integrity of the game.
Things are slow and inefficient. It's a pain in the ass to communicate with the whole team and be on the same page, as well as to recruit. There's a lot of time that could be saved on mundane non-value clicking activities that are inevitable. You could wipe out a lot of dead time with some interface re-design. And that would open the floodgates in terms of owners being able to network and communicate to such a way that there would be more activity and cohesion amongst agents.
The depth of the game is lacking. There isn't much to do. There aren't any offseason games or activities or things to be involved with. Heck at least we had a treasure hunt for an off-season. If I'm playing an RPG game and I turn on the game, I can go anywhere. If I want I can go to the Cave of Death and fight big monsters and work on my experience. If I want I can go to the Valley of Gold and fight enemies that pay a lot of money so I can buy things. If I want to further the quest and proceed with my mission I can do that too. Or if I want, I can simply go to a town and play blackjack as a mini-game. There's a whole virtual world out there and lots of activities to do. In GLB there is nothing going on but a very simplistic build process, and the only fancy things we have are basically repackaging the same attributes but with a different name. So much stuff and so much clutter and nothing fun or dynamic or different about it. Maybe he should separate speed into sub abilities, say 10 different things. Oh don't worry, they all count the same for overall speed, they just have designations to them. But at least you will have a menu to pick from so that if you are naive enough you can think you are playing a game when you are really just wasting your time and superfluous programming junk instead of fun add-ons. So if I want to grow my speed, here's how I can do it in GLB. I can use an SP. I can use training points. I can use Bonus Tokens. I can use VAs, I can use SAs, I can use equipment. Ok so it's all the same, basically I want speed, and I have 10 annoying ways that are all basically the same way to increase speed. That's not a game, that's called a COLORING BOOK. Like most coloring books, they are a fun way to pass time for about 5 minutes and then you don't want to see any more coloring books again.
Then you have the notion that stats are all out the window. There are no records or titles or data that have any value to them. Everything is juiced by gut games and unrealistic scores, so any numerical data associated with the game is basically compromised junk. Look at how much money the Fantasy Football industry is responsible for. It's not even a game you play, rather a picking of players that play the game for you and you just live with the numbers. That's a HUGE seller! Why? Because people like football and think stats are fun and interesting. Well this game deviates from football and detracts from what the game is like and what it is about, and then the numbers are all a complete abortion. That's not a good thing, that's a bad thing. The other things are fun and have market appeal, and result in a better product that is fun and viral.
GLB could have been viral instead of a lemonade stand, and it didn't anything complex to make it that way other than the same basic tools that were used to make the stand. If he can code crappy elements then he can code great elements, he just needs to invent better elements before doing the programming part! I got in on the ground floor, so I had a team set up and a good learning curve going, so it was just disappointment that there was no payoff for me. It's like if I invested in Microsoft on day 1, but then Bill Gates told me a week later that he just wants to focus on one product only with the company, to manufacture those plastic coating strips that cover LED displays on new purchases. That's it? That's all you have a vision for? C'mon Bill, I thought this was supposed to be a computer company for the new age of computers!!!??? Well, we're using computers to design the strips! But that's hardly tapping into what you could do with a computer company! C'mon Bill, imagine having some kind of a viral software program that everybody wants to have, because it doesn't exist and nobody else is doing it.
Anyhow, this post is starting to get long, I have all kinds of things in mind, and my explanation here is rather rudimentary in how I would explain my concerns to Bort if I was theoretically his business partner. You would get a far more detailed accounting of what's wrong with the game in a lot more of a structured report if I was to act on the inquiry in a professional and serious fashion. There's a lot of things that I have though of over my time here that I've also never posted, as I don't like to give away A+ advice for free, so I'm only touching on some basic general complaints with the game that I have mentioned before. The other stuff is just on permanent reserve and I've just been holding onto it for the chance event that I was ever asked by Bort to help him with his business.
