Man if we are wrong about this guy we have been wrong for centuries and where would/do we go from here??????

Just adding another question here....

If someone where to ask this question how could we really answer it....

Why is everything we do date wise and holiday wise based off of this one man and this one book that everyone knows about? Believing is different that knowing, how do we discount everything?

You do realize that only about approximately 1/4th of the world is Christian. That means that about 75% of the world's population is NOT christian and does not believe everything you believe. Not every country has the same holidays as the U.S. nor uses the same calendar. And imo, Easter isn't one of the top 2 holidays in the U.S. Thanksgiving is much bigger than Easter. Hell, Memorial Day is bigger than Easter.

Since there is no way of proving that these accounts came directly from the actual Apostles they cannot be considered firsthand accounts. Argument done.

We should throw out everything we "know" about Dinosaurs and other extinct creatures as well.

We learned about Dinosaurs through fossils not through writings.... Nice try though. Show me a Jesus Fossil and maybe this argument would work though.

Does anyone think that the Bible was written by a man with one hell of an imagination? Like Lord of the rings and STAR wars.

Also was religion and Gods really invented to keep people in line. So people would have some sort of a moral compass? I also think people believe in God or some sort of heaven because its scary to think when you die thats it. We are told there are no such things as monsters, magic, or super hero's. Yet we are supposed to believe when we die we go to this magical place. I don't know. I'm rambling so if this doesn't make since sorry. Just random thoughts.

One of the most intelligent things on GLB boards to date. My thoughts on religion exactly.

Religion is something that is supposed to bring hope and morals not something that should absolutely govern every part of our life. It is wrong that Religion is so tied to our culture as Americans because it limits our views on others a lot and causes rifts between sets of Americans.

How can you give a first hand account of something that is not true?

That is like me trying to tell you that I am giving my first hand account that my roommate had sex with Jessica Alba, and I witnessed it and can tell details. Was it really my first hand account? No, it was me making up a story. You cannot give your first hand account of something that is not true.

So there first hand account of Jesus walking on water and curing a leper are not really first hand accounts if it never happened.

So if someone is arguing (like me), that none of that shit happened, then they cannot give their first hand accounts of it. They can tell me a story about it, but it is nothing more than a story if they did not actually witness it happen.

I'm not taking either side here, but I'm curious how you can seem so sure that it didn't happen. It's almost like you know of a first hand account that says that it didn't.

Just like some people say that Hitler didn't kill millions of Jews.

I do not believe in religion at all. IMO, it is completely and udderly ludicrous that someone could have walked on water. That someone could have cured a leper. That there is one supreme person/being/w/e you want to say, that can see over everyone.

Especially with the fact that Priests, Ministers w/e your religion calls them breaks the rules they are supposed to follow more than anyone else. "Thou shall not kill" yet what about the crusades? Priests raping little boys. How are you supposed to believe in someone who preaches it to you, yet does not even really follow everything they preach?

Wow, that is a horrible analogy. Hitler killed millions of Jews. There is clear evidence of that. There is no clear evidence of Jesus. The only clear evidence is written documents from 2000 years ago. What if we did not have this technology, and in 2000 years, people found the Harry Potter books? Would they believe that Harry Potter was real, and that there were wizards, witches and what not.
