Okay Wiseman...you know me and all...but lets face it...you backed in. It may not fit your definition, but you got promoted not because you won the title game, but because spots had to be filled here so the crap teams could move down. Who cares what he called it? We know what happened no matter what label you put on it. I know the Wolfpack and Navigators backed in too. That doesn't mean he's disrespecting your team by saying that. It's nothing to be ashamed of. USA AAA2 was a very tough league and it was by no means easy to promote the standard way. Just prove you belong here. Be damn proud you backed in. Sure it would have been better to earn it the old way, but hey...you're in the big show now, and that's all that matters...not what you did in the past. Take it as an opportunity to prove yourself to USA Pro. CV is fair with his rankings, so he will move you up if you deserve to be moved up. Remember these are preseason rankings based on last season, off-season acquisitions, and probably some looking at pre-season games. Look at his rankings at the beginning of Season 7:

What Sik said.

I understand where Wise is coming from - both of our teams got merit based promotions. However, they were not merit based on winning the conference. They were merit based on too many gutted/suck teams above us. It is what it is. The 31 best teams in the US are here in Pro right now. I say 31, because Kentucky doesn't count. That's unfortunate but enjoy the bye week East

Heck, it's probably worth mentioning that the Wolfpack was the 9th team promoted out of AAA. If that's not "backing in" I don't know what is.

I'm glad as hell to be here and I know we earned the right to be the 9th team promoted due to our regular season. That's why we are here because it sure as heck ain't due to our playoff performances!

So Jrry, any team that didn't win their conference and moved up, backed into that higher league? Based on what? How promotions/relegations USED TO work?

If there are 5 spots open in the west, and the 5 best teams move up, its retarded to call that backing in, since we in fact got in under how promotions work NOW. The only way to back into a league imo would be to be swapped into it.

My definition of backing in- To be granted a promotion based on something other than merit. (ie "Bob backed in to the vice president job because his father owns the company"). It'd be retarded to say that "Bob backed into the vice pesident job because the former VP quit/was fired" DUCY?

Yes, that is how I see backed in. And no it's a totally different thing to me, I see it more as Jim earned the promotion to VP but turned it down to become President, Bob then backed in as his replacement. Do you see the difference? Your team got in because there was 1 slot open...not because you earned it...do you not understand? OTR was the same way, we came up short in earning our slot but were lucky enough to grab an open slot. It's like, Racer 1 had the slot filled but decided to back out of the race so Racer 2 was able to back into his slot...why am I even arguing semantics here? It's obviously a differing definition and opinion. Some people see it the way you described it, some see it the same way as me. We are both wasting our time arguing this.

Agreed, OTR worked our asses off to get into a position to be promoted but we didn't earn our promotion by winning the conference. IMO the only 2 teams that earn their promotion are the 2 conference winners.(well 4 actually since their are 2 leagues) Now I can understand what Wise is saying because we did earn our promotion by getting to the CCG but we didn't win the league so I guess there is a difference of opinion because I think sneaking in to fill a slot is different then winning your way up.

I will restate what TRUELY meant ... then we can drop this and let the proving happen during the season ..

I do think that putting us at 15 was a bit low .. .. (but who am i to decide) I was trying to say that had we not lost in OT we could very well (imo we would have) won the league and it wouldnt have been a team that backed in ...

I also believe that we have been given space to crawl up ...

That being said ... can we move on ... ?

And had OTR not lost to Columbus, we might have won the league...there are no ifs, you either won or you didn't. Close only counts in Horseshoes and handgrenades.

I guess the best way to compare it is to say a company has 6 VPs, they have 2 slots opening because of retirements and they fill those 2 slots with the 2 candidates who were the best then a 3rd guy quits so they fill his slot with one of the people who just missed out, of you earned your job as VP but do you feel as if you snuck in the slot only because the 3rd guy left? Probably because you would not be a VP regardless...still I'd be pumped just to be a VP and wouldn't dwell on it.

I'm done with debating at any rate about things not worth my time. So to reiterate...

1. Thanks for the rankings CV, I look forward to more in the future.
2. Crush is the man and I'm very happy he's a Hedgehog, anyone suggesting I "keep him in check" best save their words.
3. The Hedgehogs are ready to play some damned dotball already.

Thank you...

No problem WiSe.

Preseason isn't easy so I try to go with my gut. Being picked near the bottom here isn't really an insult, just a testament to how many great teams there are in USA PRO.

dont worry about it viking, we know you gotta work for respect around here. we'd hate to be over-rated as PRO rookies. you did what anyone would've done.

jrry32, its really confusing to know who you're talking about in each of your posts since you GM half of USA PRO.
