In order to do this you would probably need to do the following:
Get about 16 teams (we'll call it a league) at least together to agree to this.
Compile a roster size for each team and total the amount of players needed at each position for the whole "league" to be inputted on a draft list. This would probably make recruiting easier because you have 16 owners all trying to get people to buy into the idea and it would definitely be marketable to attract agents.
Each team would need to sign people from the draft list for minimum salaries (I'd do it for three year contracts) to lock the players up and prevent them from signing with another team after the draft.
The draft would then occur and each team would make the necessary trades of players to the team that drafted them
Sounds pretty cool.
Absolutely not.. Chem is too much of a pain. And locking a player down for 3 years at min salary is a quick way to scare off free agents.
One year deals with slotted salaries or whatever, if you can't convince them to stay, hey.. you had your chance. I would never do this if I had to sacrifice a player for 3 seasons with a team or owner that might just be a terrible experience.
More likely you'd just have to have to draft one by one and not make the next pick until the first player signed. Which could be a painfully slow process and why only 1 or 2 rounds at best might work. If you pick Player A, and he bails, and your option is player B who just signed with the team with the 2nd pick, then you're looking at a mutiny.
Assuming everyone participating signs in once a day, and you start on Day 41, it wouldn't be too hard to get it done in the 5-6 day offseason.. The only thing you'd really have to do is try to start the process as early as possible. It's not like you need to put on a poker face with who you're going to pick.
Maybe you get a team rep to agree to be in a chatroom at a certain time as soon as the playoffs end, or the positions are set, and you hammer it out on paper and you go down the list in order, making adjustments if necessary. The players waiting to be drafted could be there as well to expedite.
Chemistry is always fine by the time the play-off rolls around, it isn't an issue.
You're right, if you don't like the rules, don't do it idiot, common sense, but thanks for sharing. 3 seasons might turn some people off, but why fun is being draft so you can leave after a year? For people who are serious about the process and daring enough to try it, it shouldn't be an issue.
As you point out it would take forever to sign the draft picks one-by-one which amazes me that you still suggest it despite recognizing it as a terrible idea. You go on the honor system, the players see the list of what team they are going to, if they don't sign, they don't participate in the draft again. Why would you enter the draft knowing you might go to a team you don't want to go to? Those people will probably sign if FA and not even bother with the draft hoopla.

Things are coming along nicely. Players are filling in at all levels. Could use more level 38 plus players and teams that are going to be capped at level 13, teams capped at 21 and teams that could use players levels 22-29.
So basically, if your getting a brand spanking new cap 13 team next season and want to participate in a draft, let me know. Agents are registering players in this category. Teams filling in on a first come first serve basis.
Season 7 teams, that will be capped at level 21 in season 8, same thing, we need ya, agents are registering players in this category.
Need teams that will need to draft levels 22-29 in season 8, spaces available.
As always, the more players the better. So far, the forum has 65 usernames participating and growing. Let me know if you are interested in checking it out, if it's not your cup of tea, remove the forum from your list, no harm, no foul.
Thanks all
