I agree the odds are long, but there's a reason we play the games.

Heck, even losing to a great team like the Benitos would help us focus where we can can improve our game.

Lumberjacks Claim Europa Cup Trophy in GLB World Cup Play

A standing room only crowd of over 72,000 rabid fans filled The Gryphon War Memorial Coliseum to watch the host Eastern Europe Pro representative Stalingrad Gryphon Army square off against the Western Europe Pro Champion Woodridge Lumberjacks in the first round of the Inaugural GLB World Cup. And those fans were treated to one of the greatest games in GLB history as the Lumberjacks marched 80 yards down field and scored the game winning TD with just 21 seconds left, to cap off a 29-28 victory and claim the first Europa Cup.

After a 54 yard TD strike from Stalingrad QB Colt Remington to WR Marshall Gump put the Gryphon Army up 28-22, it looked like the Gryphon Army would be hoisting the Europa Cup. But after the ensuing kickoff and a 6 yard rush up the middle from HB Joseph Ngo brought the game to the 2 minute warning, Lumberjack QB Marlo Stanfield took over, dominating the Gryphon Army secondary and 11 straight passes later, hit WR Viktor Eriksson for the game winning 2 yard TD. "This team is really something special" said Stanfield. "I knew that Viktor would make up for his two earlier drops and with this offensive line, I know we have the best chance to score on every possession."

But while the Gryphon Army was held to only 274 yards of total offense, the arm of their leader QB Colt Remington guided them to lead change after lead change, behind 4 TD's including two to WR Marshall Gump. "With the running game shut down, it was crucial that Colt step up and deliver" said Gump. Gryphon owner RaiderSGA summed the experience up in two words: totally awesome! "We really spent a lot of time game planning to face the champion Lumberjacks" said RaiderSGA. "The atmosphere at the stadium, and the defensive effort from both teams really made for one heck of a Europa Cup game."

Woodridge Lumberjacks owner morbo agreed. "This is the best example of the type of game the GLB World Cup will foster" said morbo. "My defense was really solid, and Marlo just runs the show on the field." On the defensive side of the ball, DE Tokey McBong blazed the trail, with a 6.5 yard sack, 2 hurries and a pass deflection, to keep the Gryphon Army offense out of sync.

First round games in the Inaugural GLB World Cup continue on 10/6 and 10/7. Schedule for the second round games will be provided as soon as it is set.

... and now the rest of the GLB world gets to see why USAORG loves our one-and-only kondor!!

As always, thanks for your great writeups!

(must be hard keeping them "safe" for a general audience though lol)

This tournament is awesome. These games look great and it should be a fun tourney.

Go Legionnaires!!! You got a tough game and this will probably be the only time I am rooting for you.

Hopefully, I'll figure out a way to shut you down in the playoffs this season.

Awesome game Benitos. Wish it had turned out differently, but at least "poor USAORG" made it interesting.

GG Benitos. Apparently the games go a full 60 minutes (or in this case, slightly longer). We started celebrating too soon... and I'll admit pouring Gatorade all over Hokiemon was a bit premature. But it was still fun.
